Rising Stars: Meet Amanda Kay Myers of Austin, TX

Today we’d like to introduce you to Amanda Kay Myers

Hi Amanda Kay, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
For over eight years, I’ve dedicated myself to capturing the essence of weddings in Austin, TX, and the surrounding areas. I have a knack for highlighting vibrant colors and genuine emotions, allowing me to capture the authentic laughter and heartfelt moments that define each celebration. My passion for storytelling through photography drives me to bring every couple’s unique love story to life.

My portfolio showcases a diverse range of weddings, each telling a different story through vibrant imagery. Whether it’s a grand affair in a historic venue or an intimate gathering in a backyard, my photography goes beyond simple documentation; it’s about capturing the emotions and connections that unfold throughout the day.

My journey began when I graduated from Texas State University in San Marcos, TX, and moved to Austin to pursue a career as a corporate copywriter. However, I soon realized that the corporate world wasn’t the right fit for me. Seeking a more fulfilling path, I took a leap of faith and founded my own business—where I discovered my true passion for wedding photography.

Over the years, I have dedicated myself to refining my craft, developing a brand that celebrates the diversity of love stories through vibrant and emotive imagery. My approach is deeply artistic and heartfelt, ensuring that each wedding I capture reflects the unique essence of the couple. Through my work, I strive to preserve authentic moments and create timeless, visually compelling narratives that couples can cherish for a lifetime.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
As a wedding professional, one of the biggest challenges I’ve faced is overcoming imposter syndrome. In a creative industry, it’s easy to compare yourself to others, but I’ve learned that the most important thing is to show up fully and authentically for every wedding I photograph. I pour 100% of myself into my work, and at the end of the day, that’s all anyone can do. When you take pride in your craft, others will recognize and appreciate it as well.

Another challenge has been understanding my worth as a photographer. Not every client is the right fit, and I’ve come to realize that if something feels off from the start, it likely won’t align in the long run. Trusting my instincts and valuing my work has allowed me to attract couples who truly appreciate my artistry and vision. Ultimately, the right clients will find you when you stay true to yourself and your craft.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
At this stage in my career, what I’m most proud of is my perseverance and commitment to my craft. Many wedding photographers experience burnout and close their businesses within the first three years, but I’ve not only made it to my eighth year—I continue to grow, expand, and evolve. Staying the course in such a demanding industry is an accomplishment in itself, and I’m excited for the future.

For those looking to build a successful business, my biggest advice is to fully immerse yourself in it from the start. In the early stages, you have to eat, sleep, and breathe your business. Once you’ve established a formula that works, you can shift to working smarter, not harder—delegating tasks, utilizing AI, and seeking guidance from those who have already achieved success. Surrounding yourself with talented individuals, especially those who excel in areas where you can improve, is key. Hiring people who are better than you not only strengthens your business but also pushes you to grow and refine your skills.
