Rising Stars: Meet Andrea Betancourt

Today we’d like to introduce you to Andrea Betancourt.

Hi Andrea, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
I am a makeup artist and licensed esthetician, multi passionate beauty service provider. I feel like I’ve spent my life floating along constantly looking for my place. I fell into doing makeup through being a portrait photographer, and found a real purpose and passion in helping others feel beautiful. As a creative and artist, it was a way to make money while being able to create. After 18 years in makeup artistry, I knew I was more than just makeup. After leaving a long term position with MAC Cosmetics, I fulfilled a long time goal, earning an estheticians license. My time at Paul Mitchell the School-Austin, is invaluable to me. I knew my time there would be useful but still unsure how or what I was meant to do. After the pandemic I found myself at a wax chain franchise. I’m grateful for my time there and after 2 years, I had outgrown the center and wanting to do more. This brought me to open Black Parade Beauty Company. I am a full body speed waxer and makeup artist, expanding my services to lashes, lash lifts & brow and lash tints soon. When I’m not waxing I’m doing beauty makeup for special occasions, bridal or working on productions like commercials and music videos.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Never. However, I’ve learned to appreciate my struggle and resiliency. Each set back pushed me more forward. Ultimately, every heartbreak I’ve had a long my way, has been for my greater good. The universe has a way of taking you out of places youre not meant for. After a lifetime of facing adversity and not giving up. I’m now in a position to do everything in my career I’ve ever wanted to do and also help inspire others.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
Most of my makeup is Bridal (either on my own or hired with the bridal team I work with, Blush and Bangs) or with productions such as commercials or music videos. As a multi passionate individual, ive always felt misaligned in a specialized world. I was told the only way to be successful is to put myself into a specialized box. However, having multiple passions that are somewhat related is what actually makes me ultra-specialized. My unique set of skills, experience and values help me make a genuine connection with each person in their most vulnerable service. Whether it’s a Brazilian wax or seeing themselves in full glam. The connection and helping someone feel their best is ultimately where I thrive.

So maybe we end on discussing what matters most to you and why?
Cultivating a space where clients can receive a luxury service centered on compassion, kindness where everyone feels welcome regardless of age, gender identification, sexual orientation, race, or religion. Everyone deserves to feel empowered to be authentically themselves.
