Rising Stars: Meet Arturo Navarrete of Austin

Today we’d like to introduce you to Arturo Navarrete.

Hi Arturo, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
Born and raised in Mexico city, proud from where i come from and a huge influence in my career, went to Cordon Bleu culinary school, worked for them to obtain a scholarship, Worked for a pastry/ chocolate shop before My parents opened a restaurant which i became chef for until they had to close due to personal issues. Started running a hotel kitchen in mexico city when i got offerd a kitchen oportunity at Montage Deer Valley where i meet some of the best chefs who would guide me to some of the best kitchen experiences in my life. Went to work for Naked Fish the best japanese restaurant in Utah and got stages at Harbor House Inn at Elk California, Angler in San Francisco, Commis Restaurant in Oakland and Porto in Chicago. After 5 and a half years between Utah and califronia i decided to move to Austin TX where i was part of the opening team of the Austin Proper Hotel running The Peacock restaurant. Helped restaurants reopen after the pandemic and found about private chef services and starting doing that until now, at the beginning of the year i started my own private chef company “Hosting Austin” and now hoping to open my new project KoriKori chicken and vinyls next year.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
i dont think it should be a smooth road, being a chef has being always a hard job, specially working under chefs that wanted to see me successful so it was always push push push but it has come with a lot of great work ethic and a lot of knowledge.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
i always try to be more creative and learn from the greats reading their books and creating new dishes.

Can you tell us more about what you were like growing up?
i was an introvert but extreamly athletic, always on new sports,
