Today we’d like to introduce you to Colette LaPorte.
Hi Colette, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
I have always had a passion for photography and it was my “dream” career. I dabbled in it as a hobby; taking engagement photos for friends, but never really thinking I could make it my full-time career. I would sit on the sidelines and look at wedding photographers wishing that would be me but never knew how to make it a reality. Then once COVID hit, it really hit me that I was not doing anything that brought me joy. I picked my camera back up and decided it was now or never to make my dream a reality. I started just seriously pursuing wedding photography and working towards making it my full-time career. I did wedding photography as a side-hustle until early this year and now I am full-time. I have never been happier and am so thankful that my dream has come to life!
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
I don’t think anything worthwhile comes easy and starting your own business is no exception. I think my biggest struggle is having patience. I want to be 10 steps ahead of where I am currently, and I am just trying to enjoy the journey of where my business takes me!
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I am a destination wedding and portrait photographer based here in Austin, TX. I believe that everyone deserves to have their story told as uniquely as they are. This is why my approach to any wedding day, or creative portrait session, is very documentary style. I love capturing authentic moments and feelings and this is done by connecting with my clients and making them forget that the camera is even there! My work has been described as emotive, timeless, and candid imagery. I think the experience I create for my clients and my artistic eye in capturing your moments is what sets me apart from the rest! Photos take you back to the feelings you had in the moment — my goal is to make our time together an adventure that you love looking back on!
Is there a quality that you most attribute to your success?
My passion for my work and my love for people. Being a photographer is truly my dream job and something that I do not take lightly. Everyone that trusts me to capture their special moments in life means so much to me. I want their experience with me to be memorable, comfortable, and something that they love looking back on. I treat each couple, session, and experience with the same excitement and truly give my all to every single person.
