Rising Stars: Meet Erich Sayers of South Austin

Today we’d like to introduce you to Erich Sayers

Hi Erich, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I grew up in a small farm town in Kansas. I always had a gift for art but didn’t recognize its value and neglected my talent until a time when my life felt directionless. About that time I began drawing again, one particularly good drawing sparked inspiration that maybe I could somehow build a career around it. I decided to moved to Los Angeles The only things on my mind were art and computers. So, I packed up my beat-up car and moved to LA. I worked odd jobs and in dental laboratories for years before landing an internship at an advertising agency that was the beginning of 20 plus year career. In 2018, I moved to Austin, continuing to work in advertising remotely while exploring other avenues for my talents.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Taking the leap to a massive city like Los Angeles and managing to find my way while working jobs to pay the bills was no small feat. We had to use paper maps back then. I was a stranger in a strange land, finding my way alone. I eventually secured an internship, working for free in the evenings, where I learned how to use Photoshop and design art that effectively communicates a message. Once my career began to take off, navigating the dynamics of a highly competitive market became a continuous learning experience.

Now, a new challenge has emerged: living in Austin far from the center of entertainment advertising while striving to maintain and nurture relationships with agencies in LA and New York. Unexpected opportunities continue to arise as I work to improve my skills and gain new ones, such as mastering 3D design. Like so many careers we are seeing jobs taken by a.i.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I love create striking images that are a feast for the eyes. Mysterious, spiritual. sexual. masculine. A balance of light and dark, chaos and order, realism and surreal. ominous and optimism. Dreamlike, detailed exploration of alternate dimensions or states of mind

How do you think about luck?
“I’m a great believer in luck, and I find the harder I work the more I have of it.” – Thomas Jefferson
