Today we’d like to introduce you to Greg Daily.
Thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, how did you get started?
I have turned my passion into my profession. I am a professional photographer mainly focused on taking real estate pictures and creating as-built floorplans of commercial and residential properties. But I also love cityscape/landscape photography. I have fine art images that I have taken over the years that are purchased as statement pieces for homes, offices, conference rooms, and business lobbies. As to how I got here, it all started when I was about 7 years old and received my first camera as a Christmas gift from my parents. I took many pictures of street signs, stop signs, and bushes around the house. At some point, my parents told me they would stop paying to have the film developed if they kept taking those types of pictures and not pictures of people. As I got older, I teased them that they stunted my creativity at a young age. My passion for photography “waxed and waned” over the years while I worked in hi-tech sales, business system analysis, and real estate. Then, I joined a camera club in the early 2000s, and my skills developed. I soon started shooting photographs at a professional level and selling my work. I still remember how much less stress and excitement I felt once I decided to leave “corporate America” and become a professional photographer.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not, what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
My photography business has evolved over the years; however, my core target market has not changed, but my range of services has expanded. My journey has been relatively smooth; however, my business looks different than when I started. I made mistakes along the way; honestly, that is how I have learned, which led to a better business model and improved processes.
Thanks for sharing that. So, you could tell us a bit more about your work.
Over the last 7 years, I have photographed hundreds of projects, including residential and commercial properties, short-term rentals such as Airbnb homes or corporate housing apartment buildings, and condos. I have shot luxury homes with over 12,000sf and homes as small as 700sf, and all in between. In addition to taking pictures, my services include drone photos and videos, walk-through videos, and virtual staging of properties.
My fine art photography is hanging in hospitals, small and medium-sized offices, and homes as statement pieces. The largest size image I have sold is right under 90 inches long. I have sold images printed on glass, metal, canvas, and matted and framed. The most common is a canvas. However, I love to see photos printed on glass. When a client orders a picture on glass, I get excited because I know it will look amazing.
Before we go, can you talk to us about how people can work, collaborate, or support you?
My target market is commercial and residential realtors, architects, designers, and remodelers. My initial focus was photographing properties for my clients to help them market themselves, their properties, and their projects and promote themselves on social media. I have expanded my services over the years to include creating as-built floor plans with a lidar scanner using the iGUIDE, which my clients love. For the realtors, it can provide them with both a floor plan and 3D images that can virtually walk their clients through a property that they are looking to buy or lease. This often saves valuable time for the realtor and their client. For architects and designers, it saves them time and money from having to go to a property, measure everything, then go back and input it in their cad system. They can import the files directly into their cad system and get started on the “fun stuff” much sooner.
