Today we’d like to introduce you to Gunner Lewis.
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
I was really fortunate to grow up in Houston, Texas and be able to be exposed to a lot of cultures from a young age. I got to really explore a bunch of different creative outlets like skating, hardcore music, and fashion. From Houston, I moved to Austin to attend UT and ended up graduating with a degree in fashion design and I’ve been staying out here ever since.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
I think that I’m deeply lucky to have a pretty smooth road in the grand scheme of things and I really don’t feel like I have any room to complain about much.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I really just like to explore lots of different creative avenues. The one I’m most passionate about is definitely fashion and making clothes because it blends all of my passions into one place. I’m most passionate about putting together my most recent collection because I was able to handle each aspect of it on my own. I shot all the photos, designed and sewed all the clothes, and did all of the promotion and activation. Other than that, I’m most proud of things I make for friends because I think making stuff for your friends is really the whole reason I do it. I’m really fortunate to be so nerdy and passionate about the subcultures that I’m into because it gives me a much bigger pool of things to reference and pull from in a way that really feels genuine and that’s what separates me from other people in the creative space.
What makes you happy?
Being with those I love makes me happiest. My wife and our dogs and being with our friends is always the most fulfilling and inspiring way to spend any amount of time. Seeing your loved ones laugh is straight the most incredible feeling on Earth.
