Hi India, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
My name is India Williams and I’m a portrait and brand photographer based in Austin, TX.
My journey into photography began in high school, where I discovered my passion for both photography and business. Through mentorship, I honed my skills in portrait photography, capturing weddings, events, graduations, and family sessions. This passion ultimately led me to establish IndyPhotography LLC, my photography business.
Today, I am a full-time photographer, creating stunning galleries and personalized imagery for a diverse range of clients—from families and individuals to businesses. With a background in business and sales, I leverage my experiences to offer tailored brand photography services, understanding the needs of businesses and brands in today’s market. Characterized by a natural, classic, and timeless style, IndyPhotography LLC is dedicated to making lasting impressions with images that inspire.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
My photography journey has been filled with challenges, especially the transition from part-time to full-time work. That initial period was daunting, filled with uncertainty and financial strain. This challenging decision prompted me to reassess my path and fully commit to my true passions: photography and business. It was a pivotal moment that allowed me to channel my creativity into something I genuinely loved..
In addition, I am a Louisiana native so moving my business to Austin, TX has been a challenge in and of itself. Finding community and building a clientele can be a considerable challenge.
I tackled these challenges by leveraging my network, seeking collaborations, and investing in ongoing education to refine my skills and business strategies. By staying true to my vision and engaging with my community, I transformed challenges into opportunities for personal and professional growth.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I’ve always had a passion for storytelling, and photography allows me to convey unique narratives through images. I love creating a comfortable environment for my clients, so they feel at ease in front of the camera.
My clientele includes a diverse range of clients, from families and individuals to businesses looking to enhance their brand image. Recently, I’ve been focusing on creating tailored brand photography that helps businesses connect with their audience. I take pride in my community involvement, providing services to local organizations and mentoring aspiring photographers. My goal is to uplift others while capturing moments that matter.
I’m also honored to have been recognized as the 2024 Visual Artist of the Year by Geaux Create Studio in Louisiana! This annual event celebrates the city’s most talented artists, musicians, filmmakers, designers, and innovators, highlighting the incredible contributions creatives make to Baton Rouge’s cultural landscape.
While in Austin, I actively support networking organizations like Black Girl Austin, which focuses on empowerment, philanthropy, and building community. It’s a fantastic group where we come together to make connections, socialize, and experience new adventures.
Any big plans?
As I look ahead, I’m excited about the journey of growing my photography business and expanding my clientele. My vision is to establish a studio space that not only reflects my artistic style but also serves as a welcoming hub for clients and creatives alike.
I aim to deepen my roots within the Austin market by collaborating with local businesses and organizations to create tailored photography experiences.
Continuing to refine my skills and explore new techniques is also a priority. I’m committed to investing in professional development to ensure that I stay at the forefront of the industry.
Ultimately, my goal is to cultivate a thriving photography business that not only captures beautiful moments but also fosters connections within the community. I’m excited for the opportunities ahead and eager to see where this journey takes me!
