Hi Jacob Alan, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
Born in Freeport Texas, reared in Angleton Texas. Been in Austin 19 years and am still here through sheer tyranny of will and the grace of God. Full-time musician. Puro pinche Tejano. The only hell my mama ever raised.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
The road has been anything but smooth peanut butter. Countless hurdles, innumerable challenges. Existence, in and of itself, is a struggle fest. Navigating the nightlife, the rising cost of getting by, crippling self-doubt… the list goes on and on.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I am a full-time, self-employed musician. I sing, play harmonica and pick the guitar. I write my own songs. I am very proud of all those things.
Do you have any advice for those looking to network or find a mentor?
I do not have a mentor per se, but I do have a large handful of “big brother” musicians that I have known for a number of years that I do reach out to and seek counsel from. The game that is the music business is one giant network. Be nice, check your ego at the door. Austin is a friendly town to play music in, most of the musicians are lovely, approachable people.
