Today we’d like to introduce you to James Lipari.
Hi James, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
Austin’s beer scene is booming, and I’m so happy to be a part of it! This is the first city I have lived in 100% by choice. Along with the beer, I love the food, culture and music here. As an avid supporter of the craft beer industry, I chose to join Austin’s beer community based on the quality of beer being produced here, the enthusiastic beer fan base that continues to grow, and the fact that the city is well on its way to becoming a major beer destination. I created ATX Beer Bus to support that exact community. I essentially created a service that I wanted for myself. I wanted a reasonably priced, safe way to experience all of Austin’s great breweries, and the ones in the nearby Hill Country as well. I also wanted to have a knowledgeable guide, and go to the best breweries. Every day, I strive to make this the best craft beverage experience in the area!
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Well…I didn’t exactly put together a business model that was “pandemic proof.” Who did? Who thinks of that?! So, I opened four months before we had to shut everything down for Covid. Meh. I closed for a year until it was safe to get the wheels rolling again. With that now in the rear view mirror, we’re full speed ahead!
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I’ve always been happiest when my job contributes to the happiness of others. Even if it’s just a little bit, it counts. I’ve worked as a professional stand-up comic, bartended, and brewed beer. My passion for independent craft beer and sharing that with others is what led me to create ATX Beer Bus. Along the way, I studied for and earned the title of Level 2 Certified Cicerone which is the beer equivalent to a sommelier in the wine world. I’m certainly proud of that, What I’m most proud of is how my 100% social business endured the pandemic and allows me to continue doing what I love!
Are there any important lessons you’ve learned that you can share with us?
There is so much more to running a business than the experience you provide to your customers. Also, farming out things in areas that I’m not strong in to people who are. In the beginning, I thought I could do it all, but I’m certainly not an accountant!
