Today we’d like to introduce you to James Wade.
Hi James, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
After losing both of our parents in 2020 and 2021, my brothers and I found ourselves leaning on each other—and on the house we had always called home. Letting it go didn’t feel right. So instead, we made another decision: to open our childhood home as a short-term rental. It’s given us a way to keep their memory close, spend time in a place that still feels like “home,” and—if we’re lucky—pass it on to a fourth generation.
The house sits quietly on the corner of 7th and Pine in Georgetown’s charming Old Town Historic District, where it’s been part of our family since 1963. Our grandparents bought it first, then gifted it to our parents as a wedding present in 1968. For the next 52 years, our mom and dad raised the three of us there, filling it with laughter, traditions, and love.
Today, every room holds a story—birthday parties in the backyard under the pecan trees, holiday dinners, long porch sits on fall mornings. It’s not a showplace; it’s something better: a real family home with roots and heart.
Whether you’re in town to explore Georgetown’s famed town square or just looking to slow down in a quiet, historic neighborhood, we hope our home gives you the same sense of comfort and belonging it’s always given us.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Our parents lived in the home for nearly 52 years, and to say they were collectors might be an understatement. They loved finding “treasures”—some quirky, some sentimental—and over the years, they filled the house with pieces of their personality. When it came time to prepare the home for guests, we made a lot of trips to Goodwill… and quite a few to the dump, too. It was a labor of love, sorting through decades of memories.
The house needed work—more than we expected, honestly—but we rolled up our sleeves and poured our time and heart into bringing it back to life. Our goal was to preserve the character we grew up with, while making the space comfortable and welcoming for today’s travelers.
Some of the updates we’re most proud of include:
Central heat & air added in June 2024
All new appliances (October 2022)
Upgraded electrical and plumbing throughout
A new hallway to give each bedroom its own private entrance
Fresh paint, cozy linens, and thoughtful interior touches that reflect both the home’s history and our family’s style.
It’s still the same house at its core—just a little more polished, a little more guest-ready, and still full of love.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
We don’t just offer a place to stay—we invite you into a home that’s been part of our family for over 60 years and three generations. Located in Georgetown’s cherished Old Town Historic District, this house is filled with history, heart, and the kind of charm you simply can’t replicate.
You’ll find original touches throughout—like the shiplap walls, screen doors, hardwood floors, the old shaving cabinet, and the clawfoot tub—each with its own story to tell. But what really makes this space special are the things we’ve chosen to keep and share: shelves of classic books, antique furniture, our family’s handmade quilts, vintage toys from our childhood, and even our personal record collection. It’s all here, thoughtfully curated to reflect the soul of the home.
And when you step outside, you’re just a short walk from Georgetown’s “most beautiful town square in Texas”, nearby parks, local trails, and Southwestern University. We hope you feel the same sense of warmth and connection here that our family has felt for generations.
What do you like best about our city? What do you like least?
Georgetown is more than just where we grew up—it’s part of who we are. It’s small town USA in the best sense, with front porches, friendly neighbors, and a town square that still feels like a step back in time. Over the years, we’ve watched it grow into something even more special—a true destination known for its amazing local restaurants, charming shops, live music, and community events that bring people together.
There’s always something happening here—Poppy Fest in the spring, the Two Step Inn music festival, First Friday concerts, Market Days, Pistons on the Square, and so much more. It’s the kind of place where memories are made year-round.
Like any growing town, it’s not without its challenges—more traffic, tighter parking, rising costs—but underneath it all, Georgetown’s heart hasn’t changed. It’s still home. And we’re excited to share a little piece of it.
