Today we’d like to introduce you to Jennifer Velazquez.
Hi Jennifer, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
I relocated to Austin from Miami, FL, where I grew up visiting construction sites with my father, dreaming of working in the home improvement industry. I began my career in marketing and public relations, all while yearning for something a little more creative freedom. From a young age, I enjoyed transforming places, but more so the designing aspect of it, not really the organizing. As I grew older, I would catch myself color-coding my closet, hanging everything facing the same way on matching hangers, file-folding my clothes, etc. But I never truly knew this was something you could create a career out of.
Fast forward to 2020. I was visiting my boyfriend in Austin when COVID began, and I was basically stranded here with all of my flights getting canceled. Three months went by and I was trying to figure out what to do with my life. At the time, my boyfriend had gifted me The Home Edit book, and as I was organizing our apartment, he mentioned to me, “Why don’t you do this professionally?” I looked back at him and said, “Is that even a thing?” A few weeks later, I had my first organizing project, and it’s been two years since one of the best decisions I ever made.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
I’d be lying if I said this journey has always been pleasant and enjoyable. Sometimes projects are difficult to come by, which is scary, but sometimes there are so many which I am grateful for. In the end, it all balances out.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I am an Austin-based professional organizer. I organize whole homes, apartments, offices, closets, kitchens, and everything else you can think of. I’m also an assistant organizer at Methodize Austin, who I thank for teaching me all I know, and I pack/unpack your home with Greater Austin Moving. Although I specialize in organizing, I can assist you with everything from home staging to furniture installation through Methodize Austin or making your move great with Greater Austin Moving. Whatever the reason, I’m always thrilled to organize a new home or come back for a refresh.
What does success mean to you?
To me, success consists of finding joy in what you do, which I have done. The rest will follow.
