Rising Stars: Meet Kimberly Witte of San Marcos

Today we’d like to introduce you to Kimberly Witte.

Kimberly Witte

Hi Kimberly, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
My husband Zac started Witte Idea as a wedding videography company in 2012. He had a talent for filmmaking and after shooting his first wedding he knew this was his calling. Starting off working with his mentor photographer in Houston, he slowly started booking more and more wedding videography clients.

I was an elementary art teacher at the time and pursued photography whenever I could. We moved from Houston to San Marcos to be closer to a new teaching job in 2014. Zac was very successful in the wedding videography world and gained more clientele in the central Texas area.

Flash forward to 2018 and I decided I wanted to pursue my passion for photography full time. I finished my final year of teaching and joined forces with Zac to make Witte Idea a photo & video wedding company. It was a big scary leap at first, both of us becoming self-employed, but we trusted that if we worked hard enough we could make a career out of our passions.

We are now a thriving wedding photography & videography team and love being a part of so many couples’ most special day! We are so lucky that we get to do what we love full time. It’s been a special journey pursuing and sharing our passion and love for capturing life milestones for so many incredible people. Even more special that we get to build this business, life, and love together as the Wittes.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
We have worked really hard to flourish in the Central Texas area. The first main challenge was making the decision to both be full time self employed. This was stressful and scary at times, not knowing if we had a net to land in. Although, we found our flow and were finding success in the wedding industry. Just when things seemed to be running smoothly and I was getting the hang of the self employed mantra of “trust in the idea of abundance versus scarcity” mindset- Covid hit!

That was a dooooooozy of a time! We had at least 10 weddings booked that Spring that needed to reschedule to a new date. Realized we had no income coming in for a few months, and had no idea what the world of weddings would look like in the future. After the shock subsided, we took the time to really work on the “behind the scenes” of our business. Shooting creative shoots when possible, working on professional development and education, and manifesting our business would see a bright future.

Luckily, we were able to reschedule our postponed weddings without any issues, and even started to book new clients for the next year. The time of Covid really put things into a new perspective for us. It was a wild time, but we learned a lot!

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
We specialize in wedding photography and videography. That’s our bread & butter! We have fun doing other photo sessions or video shoots, but we just really love LOVE! On wedding days we aim to capture everything from the quiet special moments to the big party celebration. We shoot in a photo journalistic style; focusing on more candid and authentic interactions. When we shoot posed shots, we love to throw in some action based prompts to add to the natural emotion and capture the “in-between” moments. These shots are always some of ours and our client’s favorites.

We have found that working as a husband & wife team has its advantages. We are both major team players and help each other out when needed. We also have that “married 6th sense” which is a great perk throughout a wedding day. We are familiar with how each other works and have that camera spatial awareness. We even collaborate in capturing the best shots throughout the wedding day. Our creative passions combined create a really beautiful synergy, and we are always so excited when we get to share that with our clients.

Can you tell us more about what you were like growing up?
Kim- growing up I was always working on an art project or craft. I loved choreographing fun dances with my friends or sisters to our current favorite song. I was quiet and reserved at times, but silly and outgoing once you got to know me. In high school I gained a love for art history, theatre, and started my photography journey. Obsessed with the disposable cameras, and going through one a week it seemed. Upgraded to my first digital camera later my junior year- a hot pink Nikon CoolPix. Finally, I was gifted my first pro camera in college, a Canon Rebel and took photos of everything! All of this really ignited my passion and love for photography.

Zac- growing up I played sports and with friends as often as I could. I was a competitive swimmer in through my schooling years and loved my art classes. I dabbled with photography and videography often. Purchasing my first camcorder, I documented my life and got really into creative editing. Loved learning how to make abstract visuals from something I filmed and overlaying it with the right song or transition or dissolve to make something weird and interesting. I started filming music videos, writing poetry, and creating films with more storytelling cinematic elements and I’ve been hooked ever since.
