Today we’d like to introduce you to Kristin Garcia
Hi Kristin, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I have been a photographer for nearly as long as I could remember. While I loved photography, I decided to choose a more “realistic” field when I started my undergrad. A year through, I knew it wasn’t my passion and I had to follow my dreams, even if it meant getting a degree that wasn’t going to “pay the bills”. I unknowingly started my business while earning my media art degree, having a short client list for family portraits, and friends who started getting married knowing I was eager to photograph their events. Shortly after graduating, I decided to go full time with my business, sink or swim! That determination paired with not having any backup options or safety nets catapulted my business in ways I wasn’t aware of at the time.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
In the first couple years of business, it was a very bumpy road. Naivety and 100% optimism kept me going as I made mistake after mistake (having NO business experience whatsoever, and not exactly being a business savvy individual anyway…). Luckily, I was able to attract clients who appreciated my art and what I was offering, and those early clients’ trust in me paid off in spades. While I struggled with finding my voice, true business identity, and recognizable brand, I managed to continue to work hard for my clients and make them so happy they couldn’t help but sing my praises to their friends. Having built my business during the decline of an economy and a rise of social media, unbeknownst to me the timing was perfect. I was afforded the time to learn and make mistakes, and slowly build a brand that has grown into what it is today.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I am a fine art wedding & boudoir photographer. While those are my specialties, I also offer maternity, branding, and various portraiture. I am known for a distinct look in my photos which are romantic, natural, and joyful, with an editorial flair. The look of my photos from the coloring, composition, and lighting, to the emotive aspect of the subject matter and the way it makes the viewer feel is what sets me apart. This distinctive look helped me gain a lot of traction in the wedding industry with features in various reputable publications, like Martha Stewart Weddings, Cosmopolitan magazine, BRIDES magazine, and more,
We’d love to hear about any fond memories you have from when you were growing up?
I was the weird kid who brought far too many disposable cameras to a field trip (digital wasn’t a thing yet!). What was a quirky hobby to fulfill my enjoyment of photographing my giggly friends actually molded the rest of my life!
