Today we’d like to introduce you to Matt Woodfill.
Hi Matt, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
In March 2002, Matt Woodfill and Tammy Woodfill founded The Way Church of The Woodlands after feeling called to move from League City to The Woodlands, inspired by Isaiah 43:19 — that God would “make a way in the wilderness.”
Starting with just one member in an apartment clubhouse, the church quickly grew and moved to Wilkerson Intermediate School. In 2005, land was purchased along Interstate 45, and a permanent facility was built.
Since the beginning, the church has been committed to creatively sharing the message of Christ and faithfully following God’s direction. The future is bright, and the best is yet to come.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
On February 12, 2023, Pastor Matt faced the sudden loss of Tammy, his wife of over 20 years and partner in ministry. Amid profound grief, he chose to give God his “second yes”—a renewed commitment to trust God’s purpose despite his pain. This pivotal moment is the foundation of Pastor Matt’s upcoming book, The 2nd Yes, which inspires others to trust God in their own seasons of loss and uncertainty.
Today, Pastor Matt leads The Way Church with renewed purpose, honoring Tammy’s legacy while continuing their shared mission of hope, faith, and community in The Woodlands.

Are there any important lessons you’ve learned that you can share with us?
I have had many opportunities to quit, but I am happy to say I have never taken one! Galatians 6:9 says, “Do not grow weary in well doing for in due season you shall reap if you faint not.” I learned from the late Dr. Ed Cole, “Winners are not those who never fail but those who never quit.”
