Rising Stars: Meet Megan Zwack

Today we’d like to introduce you to Megan Zwack.

Hi Megan, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
I grew up in a very unenlightened and depressing German Catholic rural area and was raised in a home characterized by alcoholism, abuse, and chaos so I was very lost as a young, empathic, sensitive, and creative person. My childhood dream was to learn how to sew and have a design brand, but with my background, I didn’t have the tools to do that at the time. I went on to become a young single mom, and life was about survival and getting by as a mother of two in my twenties and early thirties. In 2012 I had a terrifying and life-altering near-death experience, and I found that I was forever changed and entered a journey of healing, metamorphosis, and spiritual awakening. I felt guided and compelled to go to school to learn how to make patterns and sew even though that was not a practical thing to do as a single mother without even having stable living conditions at the time. But to my surprise, it was as I tapped into my creativity, that opened up for me a whole new world of this higher level of guidance, trust and spiritual understanding where I would receive visions and inspiration to create collections. It was very challenging a required a lot of financial risks and hard work, but each collection attracted to me a new opportunity. By now I have showed collections for NYFW and have shown my work internationally for London Fashion Week as well as digital Milan Fashion Week, and globally for IDFW (International Digital Fashion Week). I have also had collections broadcasted in Singapore and China for ASEAN International Digital Fashion week. The work that I do is shamanic in nature where symbols and power animals come to me in vision and waking life. The process continues to perplex me, but as an artist and healer the work is about answering to the call and it brings me fulfillment as I live my soul purpose, and I am incredibly grateful for these experiences.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It definitely has not been a smooth road, but I am grateful for the challenges and learning experiences because I know that the journey has made me a strong and radically compassionate person, as well as a true artist who knows sacrifice. As a single mom raising two children without child support, life and parenting has always been incredibly arduous. I also have extra challenges raising children with disabilities and mental health complexities so it’s actually very difficult to describe in words how challenging life has been in that regard, especially without family support. My life has been characterized by extreme lows and difficulty with peaks of incredibly exciting opportunities. This is while having the pervasive feeling of living with one foot in the real world and one foot in another realm in a way that most people do not understand so that comes with its challenges as well.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
My design brand is called Dr. Zwack which loosely refers to the healing nature of my work as an artist. I work with frequencies of beauty to create couture pieces that are embedded with crystals, symbols, and coding to attract and emit healing frequencies and impact the viewers of my work in a subconscious way and in a way that is difficult to describe in words. The design work that I do is only a biproduct of the spiritual work that takes place in other realms so it can be a challenge to talk about my work and fit into the very 3D world of Fashion. I am never quite sure where the collections will take me when I first receive the inspiration, and it can be very challenging to surrender to the creative process and universal order of things.

We’re always looking for the lessons that can be learned in any situation, including tragic ones like the Covid-19 crisis. Are there any lessons you’ve learned that you can share?
Yes. on a personal level, gratefully, the pandemic has allowed me more time and space to go within and create as well as the forced transition to digital fashion allowed me the opportunity to show my work at the global level. I also have worked in restaurants over the last decade to support my family, and quarantine gifted me with rest and the self-healing that I was long overdue for as a single mom living with the constant crisis.

On the collective level, I believe that people are waking up and the pandemic is spurring spiritual awakening and metamorphosis. We are evolving into more awake and enlightened states of being, and the first stages of awakening involve change, sometimes sickness, and forced states of surrender. I knew from an evolutionary standpoint that these years would be difficult, and I could not have predicted such a thing as this pandemic, but there is a massive purging and detox happening in the collective that will move humanity eventually into more enlightened states of being as horrendously challenging it can be to accept and witness.
