Rising Stars: Meet Meredith Johns

Today we’d like to introduce you to Meredith Johns.

Hi Meredith, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I grew up in a family of artists painting and sculpting throughout my childhood. After earning a degree in Advertising I worked as a graphic designer briefly, but quickly discovered that I wasn’t happy behind a desk.. After volunteering on a zombie movie, I knew I had found my calling. I left my budding graphics career and started Hawgfly Productions, Inc. about a year or so later with my business partner Carolyn O’Hara. Hawgfly turns 17 this year and I couldn’t imagine my life any other way.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Nothing worth doing is easy. I love my job and career, but it definitely has been a wild ride of both amazing days and days where I want to curl up in a ball and cry. Running your own business is hard. Anyone that says otherwise is lying. Managing crew, clients and finances takes it out of you sometimes, but in the end it’s all worth it.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I am a makeup and special effects makeup artist and co-owner of Hawgfly Productions, Inc. I’m not your average makeup artist for sure! I design, create, build and do makeup. I work with the most innovative technologies and combine science and technology with my art. I’m constantly trying new things and I get most excited when I get to try something new! Ask any of my crew, I love a challenge and any excuse to build something cool that usually has never been done before. I’m the person people call when the creative asks for something strange and unusual. With my network of creatives and my awesome crew we have made some crazy miracles happen.

What does success mean to you?
Success is doing what you love. In my case it’s creating art. Harnessing challenges and continuing to evolve and create until the day I die.
