Rising Stars: Meet Nicky Martin of Oak HIll

Today we’d like to introduce you to Nicky Martin.

Nicky Martin

Hi Nicky, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
I got started decorating my own personal clothing, literally just writing all over my jeans and shoes. I also would splatter spray paint on my glovbes and hats and t-shirts. Then everywhere I went people would tell me that they “love my sweatshirt and my shoes”. I have my own personal style of graffiti, most call it “street”. I create a unique style which can light up anything that I paint which can be absolutely anything my client would like.: A wall inside a home, a room, fence (inside or outdoor), canvas any size, pants, shirts, leather goods, shoes, custom baseball glove or hat.

2017 – It all started in my storage unit in Montgomery, TX with a can of spray paint and a white baseball cap.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
It has been both smooth and bumby! I would say the main struggle was networking as I am introverted. That and not having a place to really open up to myself as an artist and create a ton of designs all at once. Now I have a studio. The hardest struggle was sneaking under the interstate in Downtown Houston and getting into hiding where I could do my thing.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I make paintings, customize shoes & clothing. I love Fashion. I am know for being an artist that does custom jobs for clients on canvas, walls (inside and outside), or anything you would like painted using my unique street style Art. I am most proud of the project I did in Houston for a client’s patio. I painted a street style floral pattern all over the inside wall of her back patio fencing and gate. I think the amount of energy and positive vibes and time I spend creating each project and overall look distinguishes me.

What’s next?
I am looking forward to creating as many paintings and clothing designs as I can. And growing as an artist and as a business. I plan on continuing to make more money doing what I love.
