Rising Stars: Meet Quincy Adams

Today we’d like to introduce you to Quincy Adams.

Hi Quincy, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I have always had a big passion for music. I love being creative in any way I can artistically. I was born and raised in Gary, Indiana, hometown of famous musician Michael Jackson and The Jackson Family. Brought up in a single-parent home with 2 siblings, I was the middle child with an older brother by one year and a younger sister of 4 years. My mother and grandmother worked together to take care of us. Living in a violent city and avoiding the gang lifestyle, I spent a lot of time in the house drawing or mixing music by recording what I liked from the radio stations. I graduated high school in June 1999 and attended college the same year that summer. I was reported early because I was recruited as an NCAA Division 3 quarterback for Earlham College in Richmond, Indiana. I had childhood dreams of becoming an NFL athlete, but those dreams never came true. I used that same energy and put it into creating a brand and developing as a music producer.

  • 2004 I was living in Indianapolis, Indiana, where I began to make my moves within the entertainment industry. Fruity Loops was the digital audio program of choice. It was the easiest to learn for me then, so I spent numerous hours day and night trying to be like the producers I admired so much in high school. The Legendary Traxster, Kanye West, Dr. Dre, and Timbaland, to name a few of the producers I started to pattern my sound after. I began to study the music business and received advice from label executives in the early stages of my career, pushing me to remain independent. Working hard on my craft and networking with a different artists, I was able to start producing music. I began to use the platform Soundcloud to get my music heard in 2007. A production contract with Def Jam was offered in 2012. I turned it down because I was only ready to do that kind of work for a label if I knew more about the business and being a musician. All my friends would tell me I was crazy. I would have learned on the job. I didn’t feel like that was a part of the deal, so I remained independent and began to push my brand idea, Get Fresh, even harder.
  • 2014 I established the brand name and published my first produced album with Tate Music Group (Get Fresh Radio City) based in Oklahoma City, OK. A company with mainstream industry connections but focused mainly on Christian Rock or stuff like Gospel Rap. Radio City was the first of its kind for the label with an Urban Hip Hop sound. With the work from a publicist, I began to tour the midwest going from college town to college town, networking and spreading the name, and that’s how I landed in Austin, Texas.
  • 2017 I took the 15-hour road trip option to Austin to experience the SXSW festival for the first time. I visited Austin for the festival 2 more years before the pandemic, booked events, and made my way. Networking and spreading the brand name was the goal. There were a couple of years of uncertainty, but I was able to maintain the brand and continue to expand. In 2023 I have decided to make Austin my home for the future, but finding land to purchase will be the biggest task. Today I am monetized on all social platforms. You can find my music on all digital streaming sites and get a visual of all my branding and merch ideas on my Instagram.

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey has been fairly smooth?
It has been a challenging road. My biggest challenges are remaining humble. Great things are coming fast so I need to keep a level head about myself.  Balancing a work/family life along with being an entertainer is really tough. I’d really love to just wake up and do Get Fresh stuff every day. I’d say being a parent is challenging in itself. I have an athletic son (Chance Adams) and he’s busy with all his football activities. I have to make time for that. My daughter is super talented but she’s a few years younger and I’m just waiting for her to blossom.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar, what can you tell them about what you do?
Everyone knows me as the “one man band”, not in the sense that I play all instruments, but as in I do most things well on my own. I am mostly known for music production, ad modeling, and television appearances. My brand, Get Fresh, provides various services and a way for me to connect with the public. We cater to professional music production, graphic art design, logo design and creative consulting. I am most proud of the growth of my career. What sets me apart from others is my positive approach to every aspect of life. You will have fun when you work with me; whether you are listening to my music or working with me directly, you will feel good about it.

Are there any important lessons you’ve learned that you can share with us?
The most important lesson I have learned on my journey is always to be aware of who I’m getting involved with. One bad apple can ruin the bag!
