Today we’d like to introduce you to Rose Prince.
Hi Rose, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
I picked up the guitar and started writing songs at 11, inspired by Billie Joe Armstrong. As my music taste changed, I shifted to writing rap. In high school, I was the kid penning lyrics on the back of the bus in my notepad. After high school, I didn’t really know what to do with my life – the only thing I WANTED to do was be a musician, but my parents always told me pursuing music wasn’t realistic. But writing music and lyrics is like a compulsion for me. So as I struggled through college, I kept writing songs and teaching myself to use recording software. Fear of failure definitely held me back, as did lack of resources for promotion and a lack of collaborators, so I never put anything out. Eventually I decided to commit to releasing and promoting my music, and now I have two songs out with more on the way.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
See previous answer. And I’ve been constantly let down by would-be collaborators. I find that I have more follow through than most people (though I do procrastinate), and that people’s willingness/ability to follow through is actually abysmal. If I had a win for every time a person let me down and didn’t do what they said they would, I would be super famous by now.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I’m a recording artist by the stage name of Rose Prince. I sing and rap in the style of early Drake, blackbear, and others. First and foremost, I’m a songwriter and lyricist. What sets me apart from others is my lyricism as well as my flexibility as a creator. I can write rap, country music, piano ballads, punk rock, basically anything. And I don’t write so much as create from thin air – what I mean by that is, I don’t make an effort to write my songs. They just come to me, and I try to keep up as much as possible. Right now, I’m proud of my latest release, Sensitive. The lyrics HIT.
Is there anyone you’d like to thank or give credit to?
Shout out to George Cole, my guitar teacher, who always supported me. Thank you to my parents, and my mother in particular who has always believed in me.
