Today we’d like to introduce you to Ryan Collins.
Ryan, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
I started my business shortly after graduating from Southwestern University. I had always had a passion for safety and emergency training, having started out as a summer lifeguard. Safety First Training was born out of a need I saw in the community to offer affordable and high quality training that was convenient for customers. We started off serving local pools, and grew to offer all different types of training for Day Cares, First-Responders and community members.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
The biggest struggle was getting started initially, with no contacts. I went and cold called multiple companies asking if they needed training services. Luckily, one company said yes. I went from one business customer one year, to 20 business customers the next, all through word of mouth.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I provide training for CPR, First-Aid, Basic Life Support, Lifeguarding and more, with an emphasis on providing high quality training utilizing nationally recognized curriculum from the Red Cross, American Heart Association and Health and Safety institute. We are known for traveling to our customers and providing classes on site. We make our training practical, often utilizing real life scenarios, top of the line equipment, and brining in top experts.
How do you define success?
I define success based upon how confinement our students feel in the life saving skills they learn in the class. Our goal is not only give students the skills needed, but also the confidence to act in an emergency.
