Today we’d like to introduce you to Stacey Byrd.
Hi Stacey, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
I’m the reigning Ms. Black Texas and will be competing for the crown in October in Atlanta for the hopes to be the next Ms. Black International Ambassador. My platform is fitness is for everybody and every body type…cause it is!!! Appreciate y’all taking time to read and consider!
I am a plus-size certified personal trainer and fitness coach and I’ve lost over 180lbs (and still going!) I started my journey a few years ago and I decided to post on social media because I knew like me they were so many people that see befores and afters but we never see the durings. When I first started I wanted to know the good the bad the ugly and I never saw it on social media so I decided to document my journey and show everybody the successes the lessons the setbacks and struggles.
My platform with the pageant is fitness is for everybody and every body type because so many people think fitness isn’t for them and it really is. We just have to learn to meet people where their personal fitness is to foster that relationship.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
My road to fitness has been anything but smooth. Most people think that weight loss is linear, but it is not. There are a lot of ups, downs, sideways and all kinds of directions but straight.
The most difficult part has been fighting internal voices that say I am not good enough or I will fail or my dreams are too big. Most people don’t realize that they are their own biggest barrier to success.
Being fluffy, it is difficult to also persuade people about fitness because the first thing they see is my size and they want to try to discount me and my knowledge. While I understand this is why my platform for the pageant is Fitness is for Everybody and Every Body
As difficult as it has been I wouldn’t trade it for anything because this path lead me to compete in the Miss Black International Ambassador pageant.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
My day job is as a Director of Network Operations for Baylor Scott & White Health. The simplest way to describe what I do is, it is my job to oversee all the staff that makes sure that we have quality providers and a robust and expanding network. I absolutely love my organization and my team.
I am also Ms. Black Texas International Ambassador. This job allows me to share my story and help get the community to move and be better versions of themselves. This job is such an honor and blessing to have.
I am also a Certified Person Trainer and Online VIP Fitness Coach with Bombshell Fitness. I absolutely love being a coach! This allows me to not only use the formal education I have but also to lend my personal weight loss journey to help others fight through their own journey. Helping people transform for life and get off the diet hamster wheel is so fulfilling.
How do you define success?
Success to me is defined as never giving up.
The only way to fail is it stops trying. Stumbling is part of the journey, learning lessons is part of the journey but giving up is never part of the journey.
