Hi Supriya, I’m so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today.
I am Supriya Soni, a Design professional based in Austin. My small business “Suppa Henna Arts” is a Pandemic baby; it all started when I moved to Austin from India, and I had almost zero professional connections and friends in Austin. Henna is my hobby, and it’s meditation for me; I did henna for some of my community neighbors as a festive token, and they loved it. I am still grateful for them to motivate me and guide me to move ahead and take my hobby more seriously. I started reaching out to other Professional Henna artists and event planners in the area, started with my Instagram page, and slowly started working for weddings, festivals, and personal appointments. I enjoy meeting new people, understanding their requirements, and giving them a unique design they can adore on their bodies. I am growing slowly, but I am very proud to have established my name as one of the Top henna artists in the city; I am still learning everything.
Let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what challenges have you had to overcome?
Starting something from scratch is never a smooth road; with zero friends and family in the city, I worked hard to establish my online presence, reached out to multiple people with personal messages, and shared pictures of my work. Social media helped me a lot in this process. Learning and perfecting the henna recipe is also one of the biggest challenges; sourcing the best raw materials and maintaining the quality of my products is also one of my priorities. I am constantly grateful to those who believed in my art and supported my small business.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar, what can you tell them about what you do?
Henna is meditative art for me. I enjoy the detailing part the most, and my ability to achieve finer details sets me apart from other henna artist. Understanding the requirements and wanting the design process is crucial to achieving beautiful results. I love details; I incorporate very different details per their design instructions for each customer. I specialize in Bridal Henna; I understand the personality of the Bride and groom, their story, theme, and vision for the henna, suggest some design suggestions based on my creative ideas, and create a unique design for each of my Brides. We all are stories at the end of the day.

The best thing about Austin is the people. They are warm, welcoming, and respectful of every community. I have learned so much from Austin and its residents. The least I like about the city is the super hot and dry summers. Apart from that, everything is wonderful here.
