Today we’d like to introduce you to Svetlana Pustova.
Hi Svetlana, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
My story begins in a small town in Russia called Dalnegorsk. When I was 12 years old, my family decided to move to Mexico City, Mexico. I didn’t know what was expecting me, but I was excited and obviously sad to leave all that I knew about life (till 12 years old of course) behind.
Now, when I look back, I think I wouldn’t even be able to describe to my 12 years old self what I was gonna live.
I’m an actress in Mexico. I studied in Televisa’s acting school, CEA (Centro de Educación Artística), that for sure took my Spanish and understanding of the Mexican culture to another level. Meanwhile, I was studying acting, I was also finishing my high school. So, doing two schools at the same time not easy, required a lot of passion, something that I had. I started when I was 16 years old and then had several opportunities to be part of different soap operas and other projects. Being on TV was a dream!! I never imagined I could do something like that since I consider myself a shy person. So, that was HUGE for me personally!
Also, I got married to a Mexican guy a few years later and during the pandemic, we decided to open our Marketing Agency “Cxnecta” (pronounced as conecta) and I can’t even explain how grateful we are with it. God has been so good! It was such a challenge…leaving our “secure” jobs to start something that we didn’t know was gonna work or not, but we had our rent saved for three months and took a leap of faith. We literally haven’t had a publicity about our agency, but every client that we have is because Cxnecta was recommended by someone that had worked with us, and that’s amazing!
Cxnecta is about connecting your needs with talented people that can do it. It’s content tailored to you! So, we’re really excited about that, and that’s when we decided to go to Austin or should I say “Silicon Hills” to expand Cxnecta. It’s amazing the energy you can feel of everything that’s going on in this beautiful city!
I also this year launched “Brave & Unique”! It’s the community of girls and women that come together, grow in their faith, share their stories, connect with others, encourage them. They leave behind their past and mistakes and embrace the future and their unique identity. They empower, they inspire, they love, they support. They are brave and unique. God put this vision and desire in me that I can’t ignore. I wanted to do that for two years and it’s finally here!
These two words have been so close to my heart throughout my life, and finally I can see them empowering others! So, I’m very excited about that too!! You can actually listen to the podcast of B&U in every platform and also find it on Instagram.
I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey have been a fairly smooth road?
For me, definitely is the thought of failure. You know how you want to prove to your family that you can succeed in this world by not doing the job that guarantees you stability. Well, being in this road and challenging myself to think different (not traditionally) have had difficult moments. Not having someone that went through creating their own company and mentoring you has been a road of discovery: how you manage the team, finances, clients, workflow, etc. In spite of that, taking this step made me and my husband grow in an incredible way!
I think my favorite part about work is being able to have your office in a coffee shop! I even think we explored most of the coffee shops in Austin and Mexico City!
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
Well, basically my three passions right now are Cxnecta Marketing Agency, Brave & Unique sisterhood, and my acting career.
Cxnecta provides graphic design, content planning, social media strategy, social brand identity, 3D rendering and 3D rendered animation videos. It works like a subscription plan or you can also customize it. All content is tailored to each one of the clients.
On the other hand, B&U sisterhood is about empowering, inspire, connect and support girls and women throughout the stage of life they are in. That’s why I started with the podcast where we can raise a voice, tell a story and be united. Besides, the podcast is mainly in Spanish and some words in English, both languages are my favs, so I can’t leave out one. I also speak Russian, so we’ll see what I can do with that further on.
And about my acting career, I’m also excited about it. I just signed with a manager in Mexico and she’s great, so I’m really looking forward to more opportunities, for now focusing more on the online platforms like Netflix, Amazon Prime, Apple TV, HBO, etc.
What was your favorite childhood memory?
Oh, that’s a good one!! For sure, hanging with my friends in Autumn and Winter. Rolling down the cliff in the falls leaves on the ground and running back up to roll down again. As well as play with the snowballs in Winter! Who would’ve thought I’d miss Winter… I haven’t had it for 18 years, just sun and beach in beautiful Mexico.
