Today we’d like to introduce you to Tony Lin.
Hi Tony, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
I am an award-winning emergent storyteller and creative director with over 15 years of experience in both agency and corporate settings. Also a collaborative, open-minded, innovative international leader with deep experience working with digital media to develop creative strategies and collaborate on executions that attract, grow, and monetize audiences across linear, digital, video, and social platforms.
I began my journey in 2005 when I graduated from the Art Center College of Design. Since then I have had the opportunity to work with a variety of clients and organizations. Early in my career, I worked as a personal designer for Usher Raymond and later took on leadership roles as the art director for ESPN and Fox Sports Net. In addition to these roles, I also started my own business, Samsara Workshop, an Asian Mythology inspired accessories brand. Throughout my career, I have held various positions in the design industry, including art director for C2K Communication, where I worked with clients such as Toyota Prius Prime, Dubai Emmar Group, and Square Enix. I then became the creative director for EZVIZ, a part of the Hikvision company, where I led the global creatives in strategizing hero product launch campaigns and worked to amplify the brand’s voice and ensure overall brand consistency on a global scale.
Most recently, I acted as the creative director for Artema Labs, leading the motion/NFT team in launching the Multiverse with Motorsports network while also serving as the motion designer for Deloitte’s Green Dot Agency. Throughout my career, I have consistently demonstrated my ability to lead and inspire teams, as well as my dedication to delivering high-quality work for my clients. I am excited to continue growing and learning in my field, and I am always seeking new opportunities to contribute my skills and expertise.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
As a designer, I have faced a number of struggles and challenges throughout my career. One common struggle that I have encountered is learning how to prioritize different tasks and manage my workload effectively. With so many competing demands on my time and attention, it can be difficult to decide which tasks to focus on first and which ones can wait. This can be especially challenging when I am working on multiple projects at once, or when I am working on a tight deadline.
Another struggle that I have faced is taking my own experiences into account when mentoring junior designers. It can be difficult to strike the right balance between offering guidance and allowing my mentee to find their own way. I want to be helpful and supportive, but I don’t want to be too hands-on or overbearing.
Ensuring work-life balance is also something that I have struggled with at times. The design industry can be demanding and fast-paced, and it can be easy to get caught up in my work and neglect other important aspects of my life. Finding the time and energy to pursue my personal interests and hobbies can be challenging, and it’s important for me to make sure that I am taking care of myself and maintaining a healthy work-life balance.
Finally, as someone who is dedicated to producing the highest quality of work, I have struggled with finding the right balance between meeting deadlines and taking the time to perfect my work. I have also faced challenges in staying up-to-date with the latest design trends and techniques and in staying motivated and inspired when faced with creative blocks or setbacks. Despite these struggles, my career achievements show that I have the skills and determination to overcome these challenges and succeed in my field.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
As a creative director, I specialize in motion graphic creative direction and have a reputation for leading successful projects. Some of my notable achievements include the launch of the Motorsport Multiverse NFT projects, the global launch debut of the Toyota Prius Prime, and the Creek Harbour sales center journey for Dubai Emmar Group. I have also led the Saint John’s 75th Anniversary campaign and the global hero product launch campaign for EZVIZ. I am particularly proud of my work with Toyota and EZVIZ.
What sets me apart from others in my field is my ability to not only come up with creative concepts but also execute them hands-on. My skills and expertise in both areas make me a valuable asset to any team or project. I have a proven track record of success in the design industry, and I am constantly seeking out new opportunities to contribute my skills and expertise. Overall, my passion for design and my dedication to delivering high-quality work truly sets me apart from others.
Is there something surprising that you feel even people who know you might not know about?
As a father, I have learned the importance of patience, family orientation, and inclusivity in creating a strong and supportive environment. These skills have been invaluable in my role as a team leader, as I strive to create a work culture that fosters individual growth and team success.
My experience as a father has also taught me the value of patience, particularly when it comes to guiding and supporting others through challenges and helping them to reach their full potential. I understand the importance of taking the time to listen, understand, and provide guidance and support to my team members, and I strive to create an inclusive and welcoming environment where everyone feels valued and supported.
In addition, my experience as a father shows me the importance of being family-oriented and prioritizing the well-being and happiness of those around me. I understand the importance of work-life balance, and I work to create a team culture that is centered on the needs and well-being of my team members.
