Rising Stars: Meet Zach Attwood

Today we’d like to introduce you to Zach Attwood.

Hi Zach, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
I was born and raised in Austin, Texas. I’ve always had a passion for film and acting. In high school, I bought my first video camera and started making nature videos and creating day in the life videos. I eventually joined the audio video production class at my high school and started to make videos for school there as well. I began acting in my classmates videos and my teacher suggested I try out acting in the school plays. I later joined the theater program at my school and the theater teacher there encouraged me to pursue acting outside of school as well. I joined a few Facebook groups and started to apply to films and tv shows. Eventually, I booked my first role in a short film called “Mortal Coil” and was flown out to Burbank, California for filming. From there, I was able to sign with an agent and begin auditioning for major films and tv shows. After acting in several films and even writing my own film “Morning Travis” I eventually booked my first pilot currently under development, being produced by Captive Atoms, an Austin-based production company.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It’s been challenging for sure. Learning how to become a character and put myself in someone else’s shoes was difficult at the beginning. Thankfully, I’ve had great teachers and coaches to help me along the way and help me get into a character’s head. I’ve learned a lot about myself through acting. On the other hand, doing auditions after auditions and not working on a film for weeks or even months can be disheartening. But I very much enjoy learning about other people, how they think, walk and talk. Taking on characters with an interesting backstory and getting to be someone else for a bit, I can be someone who is ‘perfect’ or someone who is terribly broken. It’s never a boring day on a film set, there’s always something interesting happening.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What are you most proud of?
I’m proud of myself for continuing to push on. I’ve met so many actors and actresses through my career who are going strong at the beginning and I’ll see them a year or two later and they are no longer acting. It’s not an easy industry, hearing “No” every time you audition while you’re putting so much work into your craft can mess with you, but you got to learn to get past that. You got to remind yourself to have fun, and when you start to just have fun and play with the character is when you remember why you started acting in the first place.

Before we let you go, we’ve got to ask if you have any advice for those who are just starting out?
Have fun, be vulnerable and live truthfully. Don’t stop learning about acting. Be involved in classes or go to workshops, there is always something to be learned and you never know who you may meet in that class. Don’t be afraid to be weird and learn to not care what people think. Life is too short to be worrying about that.
