Rudy Martinez shared their story and experiences with us recently and you can find our conversation below.
Hi Rudy , thank you so much for taking time out of your busy day to share your story, experiences and insights with our readers. Let’s jump right in with an interesting one: What is a normal day like for you right now?
“As the mastermind behind Koffin Krew Apparel, my days are fueled by creativity and driven by passion. I kick-start my morning with a rigorous exercise routine, getting the blood pumping and the mind sharp. Post-workout, I dive into the world of entrepreneurship, tackling a slew of tasks that keep the Koffin Krew machine running smoothly.
First things first, I scan through business emails, responding to key stakeholders, collaborators, and team members. Next, I check in on the brand’s website and analytics, ensuring everything is running like clockwork and making data-driven decisions to drive growth.
Reaching out to our talented brand ambassadors is a crucial part of my day, as we work together to push the boundaries of gothic fashion and culture. I also dedicate time to crafting compelling content for our social media channels, carefully curating a dark, edgy aesthetic that resonates with our community.
As the founder of The Raven’s Corner podcast, I wrap up my day by scouting out talented guests who embody the Koffin Krew spirit. Whether it’s a heavy metal band, a gothic artist, or a like-minded creative, I’m always on the lookout for fresh perspectives and innovative ideas. It’s a busy schedule, but every moment is worth it to bring the darkness to life.”
Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
“My name is Rudy Martinez, the mastermind behind Koffin Krew Apparel, I’m a 43-year-old artist, guitarist, and gothic brand ambassador with a passion for dark aesthetics and heavy music. My brand, Koffin Krew Apparel, is a lifestyle clothing line that embodies the spirit of gothic fashion, catering to those who dare to be different. What sets us apart is our commitment to embracing the darkness, celebrating individuality, and fostering a community of like-minded creatives.
Through Koffin Krew, I’m not just building a brand – I’m cultivating a movement. Our apparel is designed to make a statement, to provoke thought, and to inspire self-expression. As a guitarist and artist, I bring a unique perspective to the world of fashion, infusing our designs with a sense of rebellion and nonconformity.
Amazing, so let’s take a moment to go back in time. Who were you before the world told you who you had to be?
That’s a profound question. Before the world told me who I had to be, I was a kid with a passion for music, art, and the unknown. I was drawn to the darker side of life, fascinated by mythology, folklore, and the supernatural. I think that’s where my love for gothic aesthetics and heavy music started.
As I grew older, I began to explore my creativity through music and art, using those outlets to express myself and tap into my emotions. I was always a bit of an outcast, drawn to things that were considered unconventional or taboo.
But I think the turning point for me was when I discovered the gothic subculture. It was like I had finally found my tribe, my people. I was able to express myself authentically, without apology, and surround myself with others who shared my passions and interests.
Now, as the founder of Koffin Krew Apparel and host of The Raven’s Corner podcast, I’m able to live my truth and share that with others. It’s a liberating feeling, being able to be myself without fear of judgment. And I hope that my brand and podcast can inspire others to do the same.
If you could say one kind thing to your younger self, what would it be?
If I could say one kind thing to my younger self, it would be: “Keep creating, keep pushing boundaries, and never apologize for being yourself. Your uniqueness is your strength, and the world needs more of your darkness and light.”
I think our readers would appreciate hearing more about your values and what you think matters in life and career, etc. So our next question is along those lines. Is the public version of you the real you?
Yes, this is who I am and I’m happy I get to express myself through my apparel, art and music. I’m also constantly evolving, learning, and growing, and there’s depth to my personality and experiences that might not always be apparent in the public sphere.
Before we go, we’d love to hear your thoughts on some longer-run, legacy type questions. Are you doing what you were born to do—or what you were told to do?
Honestly, I feel like I’m doing what I was born to do. As a creative, I’ve always been drawn to the darker side of life, and my passions for music, art, and gothic aesthetics have been a driving force in my life. Building Koffin Krew Apparel and The Raven’s Corner podcast has allowed me to tap into that creative energy and share it with others.
While there are certainly external factors that have influenced my path, I feel like I’m staying true to my inner self and pursuing my genuine interests. It’s a sense of purpose and fulfillment that I’ve worked hard to cultivate, and I’m grateful to be able to share that with others through my brand and podcast.
