Check Out Bridney Jones’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Bridney Jones.

Hi Bridney, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
Shevone J Collection was started in 2017, when I was looking for hair care accessories for my daughter, Jaliyah. She hated bonnets at the time and would often go to bed without anything on her hair to protect her hairstyle. Needless to say, a day at the salon was money going down the drain. I am a Research Policy Specialist by day and I began to research different fabrics that will help maintain the moisture in her hair. This is when I came across silk and its benefits. I figured silk pillowcases would be the go to since my daughter didn’t care for a bonnet at the time.

Meanwhile, during this time, I began to experience some life changing health issues. I was losing my hair and it was thinning in some areas, I was experiencing sweats at night, itchy/shaky hands and weight issues. I went to the doctor and found out that I was suffering from hyperthyroidism. I lost some weight and began medication that made me gain weight that caused me to go into hypothyroidism. Yeah, it was a crazy time!

I continued to research more on my condition. During this time, I cut my hair and started wearing wig units. This was when I found the love for wigs, so I start making them for others and thought it’ll be great to get into the beauty industry. Plus, the research I did prior on silk fabric lead me to invest in silk hair bonnets. Shevone J Collection was birthed during this time. I figured starting a business selling these items will not only benefit my daughter and I, but also others that may suffer from similar health concerns.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Starting a business is definitely not easy! Some struggles I came across was dealing with Customs when getting packages shipped, trial and error for testing quality products, not receiving my exact order, having to replace stolen shipping items and that’s just to name a few. Not to mention, small business owners were hit hard with COVID-19 pandemic.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
In my professional 9-5 career, I am a Research Policy Specialist. I create policy and rules for the state government. I am known for my extensive research abilities. I am proud of my accomplishments to continue my full time job and make time for my passion, Shevone J Collection.

Is there anyone you’d like to thank or give credit to?
I have to give credit to God for this vision, my loving husband – James for the late nights and being my checks and balances throughout this process, my son- Jayden for helping with creatives Reels/TikTok videos, my daughter- Jaliyah for handling shipping/packing orders when I get behind, my brand ambassador, Breanna Roddy, who is just a call away! Breanna steps in as an assistant, event coordinator and whatever the team may need at the time. Nakinya Durham and Candance McField for stepping in when needed. I can’t forget about Gabbi Payne for always pushing me out of my comfort zone. Thank you to my legal team for drafting documents and advice, mentors, family, friends and my supporters! You all go hard for Shevone J Collection and I am forever grateful.
