Today we’d like to introduce you to Lorie Tonche.
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
I am a South Texas Native, born and raised in the Rio Grande Valley. I moved to Austin in 2006 in pursuit for better career opportunities. I consider myself an Austinite now but will always have the valley in my heart. I started my journey in the creative industry in 2016. However, as I think back, I remember always having a love for decor and making people happy from a young age. I remember decorating for my cousin’s baby shower when I was 13 years old. I continued to do events for friends and family and loved it! I was known as the decorator of the family. When I started my journey, I began as an Event Planner, providing all types of event decor from backdrops to centerpieces for all occasions, and then I became a Wedding Planner. Weddings are my favorite! I just love being a part of love stories! Also, just seeing everything come together would bring me so much joy. I later branched into the balloon world in early 2019 and began to offer balloon decor services. Shortly after, covid happened and created the biggest shift in the industry!
During this time, when all events were canceled/postponed, I pivoted my business and offered balloon bouquet arrangements with contactless delivery options and to my surprise, this became quite popular! It was amazing to continue to bring joy to so many when we all needed it the most!
It took me many years to actually take a leap of faith and start my business. I knew I wanted to do something greater but I kept holding back, thinking it wouldn’t work or I wasn’t good enough yet. Time would pass and I would say, “Okay, I’ll do it next year”. I was comfortable working at my corporate job until I no longer was. I became unhappy with my routine and felt I was missing something. When I worked on events, it would bring me so much happiness, and I wanted more of that. I related so much with this quote, “Do more of what makes you happy”. So one day, it happened. I decided to pursue my dreams and started a business. Even then, it took some time to finally find my perfect niche. I finally have!
Sometimes we want things to be perfect or to have things lined up just right before we start. However, that’s not always the case. Sometimes you need lots of faith and courage to believe in yourself and just do it. And that’s what I did.
That passion is how LoveJoy&Co was born. I’m so grateful for the amazing support of my husband and my family.
I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey have been a fairly smooth road?
I wish I could say it has been a smooth road, but it definitely has not been. Running a business leaves very little time for personal time. There’s many late nights, early mornings, frequent on the go’s, but even then, it feels amazing working towards something that’s your own. It can also be challenging to find people who love your business as much as you do when you’re building a team, when you do find them, consider yourself blessed. Despite of these challenges, I’m so glad I didn’t give up. I remind myself that it takes doing what most aren’t willing to do in order to have the life you want.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I am the owner of LoveJoy&Co. Austin. I am a Balloon Stylist and specialize in luxe balloon decor for celebrations, special occasions, and corporate events. I create Balloon Magic and I love what I do! 🙂 I am most proud of pushing myself to where I am today and taking the biggest leap of faith for my business. I believe what makes me different is how I use my gifts I’ve been given to help bring joy to as many life’s as I can. I hope to inspire anyone else who has thought about a dream and felt they couldn’t do it, anything is possible when you believe.
Let’s talk about our city – what do you love? What do you not love?
I love Austin for all the amazing views and the nature spots available! Austin is so unique and so fun! What do I like least….the traffic!
