Conversations with Camilla Pigott

Today we’d like to introduce you to Camilla Pigott.

Hi Camilla, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
I remember my eldest daughter 3rd birthday and I couldn’t afford a cake at the time. I baked her the cutest, well ugliest cake LOL. I was horrified but she loved it. That smile meant everything to me. Fast forward, I started dipping into treats here and there and noticed that baking and creating made me feel good. The reaction from others when they tasted my confections always stuck with me. I knew though because I worked in the medical field full time, there wasn’t any room to pursue baking.

Well, God had other plans for me. In 2018, I gave birth to my youngest daughter Avery. After post pregnancy health complications including a type of heart failure called Peri-Partum Cardiomyopathy, my husband and I decided that taking some time off to focus on my health would be beneficial. We moved to Lafayette, La where was honestly struggling from depression because of so many drastic changes in so little time. Well, I turned back to baking, and it has become the apple of my life. I haven’t looked back since. I love creating edible art, designing eye appealing and catchy cakes and confections. Baking has truly given me the power to take my life back.

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey have been a fairly smooth road?
The biggest struggle along the way was confidence. Not wasting potential had to be one of the hardest things, We all want to be great and want perfection. I knew that I had a talent, but I wasn’t sure how the industry would accept me. It took some late night pep talks and some really loyal customers to show me just how valuable I am to the baking community.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I absolutely love designing floral buttercream cakes!!! They are my happy place. Florals bring in a beauty of their own, so having a gift of being able to not only let florals shine, but create an eye catching buttercream design as well is a challenge that I am constantly loving. The beauty is that, it’s all art, it’s always changing, so there’s never a moment where I feel like there’s just absolutely nothing else to try. I can literally let my mind run free with creative ideas and it’s never ending. It’s beautiful.

Can you share something surprising about yourself?
Weellllll, I’m actually not a big cake eater. I know, I know!! Of Course I taste test and create new flavor pairings but If I had to have a birthday cake just for me, I probably wouldn’t. I do love a good ice cream cake though!
