Today we’d like to introduce you to Christopher Gilmer.
Hi Christopher, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
I am an American-Filipino self-taught artist. My family doesn’t have an artistic bone in them, so I’m not sure where my desire to create came from. I’ve always been interested in drawing as a child and painting has always been a passion for me. In the flow state I felt time slipping away and escaping. In my teenage years, when it became therapy, I became obsessed with art history and the inventive techniques of artists.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
I see this as my path. Art has always been at the center of my life. Being self-taught and feeling alienated I struggle with the network side of it all. I’ve been fortunate with some aspects of growing, but I prefer to concentrate on my experiments and ideas. If it were not for painting I probably would’ve become an evil fringe scientist kidnapping fascist and throwing them into a poorly designed teleporter.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I create oil paintings inspired by data-moshing, quantum mechanics, and psychology I create artworks that explore the phenomenon that emerges of each physical mutation of the human figure as if multiple universes merge in time one after another into a singularity. I explore the disparate outcomes of candid moments as one singular reality by using a cubist framework. Often i will blur the lines between realism and expressionism art, and sometimes adding primitive line art to the entanglement of almost parallel poses to create a cubic expressionist vision. This creates a neo-portrait neo figurative style
We love surprises, fun facts and unexpected stories. Is there something you can share that might surprise us?
I like imperfect things so much that I even have a three legged dog. I’m also from very far away.
