Rising Stars: Meet Sachi Jenkins

Today we’d like to introduce you to Sachi Jenkins.

Sachi, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
I got my DSLR camera when my kids were still little. On the very first day, I took a photo of my daughter blowing bubbles, and it happened to come out beautifully, capturing her innocence, purity, and joy all in one image in a way that cellphone cameras couldn’t portray. And I was just hooked! It’s been over 10 years since then, and during that time, I had used the camera mostly as a hobby, taking pictures at my son’s lacrosse games, both kids’ swim meets, birthday parties, and so on. Now I’m in my 40s and have been wanting to do something that makes me happy as part of my career. So I thought, “why not jump into the world of professional photography?”. My life is just at a halfway mark, and it will be a waste if I don’t do something that gives me joy. And taking pictures of people gives me great joy, especially when my clients love and cherish the photos.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back, would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Well, I have to say my photography career is just at the beginning stage. I’m also a freelance writer/translator, and there have of course, been ups and downs on that path, but I’ve always been really fortunate to be surrounded by wonderful people who have helped me and guided me throughout the years. I did try to get into photojournalism at one point. It didn’t take off as I had hoped, but it was a good experience and the pictures I took are still an important part of my portfolio to this day. So I’m back at the start line one more time, and I am really excited to see what the future holds.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I specialize in portraits. There is just something about people that make photos so special. I love using natural lights and colors to bring out the beauty of each person. My main goal is to make clients happy because that makes me happy in return. I’m still learning about posing though! That is probably the biggest challenge of taking portraits. But when it works, the end result is so rewarding.

Who else deserves credit in your story?
My family is my biggest cheerleaders, and they support and encourage me in everything I do. My kids are also my best models when I scout locations or need some practice!
