Amy Stanfield of Hill Country on Life, Lessons & Legacy

Amy Stanfield shared their story and experiences with us recently and you can find our conversation below.

Good morning Amy, it’s such a great way to kick off the day – I think our readers will love hearing your stories, experiences and about how you think about life and work. Let’s jump right in? What is something outside of work that is bringing you joy lately?
I believe in a healthy quality of life, so I try to carve out some downtime for myself on a regular basis. It’s easy to keep pushing yourself to work every day of the week, but that leads to mental and physical burnout. Something as simple as a happy hour with my girlfriends or a date night with my husband rejuvenates me.

My favorite thing, though, is to travel with my husband. We usually take quarterly vacations each year, where at least half of them earn us another stamp on our passports. We love exploring new places or simply sitting by the beach. Another thing that really brings me joy is good food! I am always on the hunt for a culinary delight, especially when traveling.

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
I’m Amy, owner and operator of a wedding venue called Harper Hill Ranch located in the beautiful Texas Hill Country. My husband, Steve, and I kicked off this adventure in 2017 when we found and purchased acreage that included a historical German house and a horse barn. Ever since then, we have worked to offer a place where couples can have their “Best Weekend Ever” while tying the knot in front of family and friends. We love getting to know our couples throughout the process and are hands-on when it comes to wedding day. Something that sets us apart is our weekend package that allows the couple to stay on property and spend more time enjoying themselves vs. a quick in and out experience at other places. We also have some amazing ranch animals that people love – longhorns, a highland cow, mini donkeys and more!

On the personal side, I’ve been married to my husband for 20 years and we have four amazing children and recently became grandparents. We also have two cute dogs that are my sidekicks.

Great, so let’s dive into your journey a bit more. Who taught you the most about work?
My parents taught me the most about work and how to carry myself. They modeled hard work, being nice to others and to not give up. I believe they helped shape my work-ethic in a positive way and have always encouraged and supported me in achieving more. If I need help, they are some of the first people in my life to be there besides my husband.

What fear has held you back the most in your life?
The fear of failure has held me back at times. I always wanted to do my best at something and if I thought I wasn’t well-suited for something, then I hesitated in trying. Over the years I’ve become more self-confident and adventurous with the support and encouragement of my husband. He has enabled me to fulfill many of my dreams.

I think our readers would appreciate hearing more about your values and what you think matters in life and career, etc. So our next question is along those lines. What would your closest friends say really matters to you?
I believe my closest friends would say that relationships really matter to me. I tend to be a people pleaser and want to help others. I am affectionate and it brings me joy to help others through acts of service and gifts.

Okay, we’ve made it essentially to the end. One last question before you go. If you knew you had 10 years left, what would you stop doing immediately?
I would stop hesitating on taking time off from work to explore the world and spend more quality time with family and friends.
