An Inspired Chat with Chantelle Wallace of Cat Mountain

We recently had the chance to connect with Chantelle Wallace and have shared our conversation below.

Good morning Chantelle, it’s such a great way to kick off the day – I think our readers will love hearing your stories, experiences and about how you think about life and work. Let’s jump right in? What is something outside of work that is bringing you joy lately?
My foster pets finding their forever homes always brings me joy. Recently I fostered a big, black bully mix with a bum leg on the euthanasia list at a rural Texas shelter. She was terrified and limping when I first brought her home, but love and physical therapy caused her to blossom. She found her forever family in Oregon where she spent a cool, relaxing summer hiking, swimming, boating, and picking berries with her humans who send me amazing pictures of her adventures.

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
I work in marketing technology at Charles Schwab during the day, but my evenings and weekends are devoted to dog rescue. I have volunteered at Austin Animal Center for almost 18 years as a large dog walker, new volunteer mentor, and I take pets on local news. I also foster for rescue orgs such as Central Texas Ruffugees and Saving South Texas because they focus on transporting pets out of this high-kill state to locations with better spay/neuter and cruelty law enforcement.

Okay, so here’s a deep one: What relationship most shaped how you see yourself?
I was raised as an only child by a busy single mom who held a corporate day job and was a musician in the evenings and on weekends. She believed I could do anything I set my mind to and constantly encouraged me. She also set a great example of helping people and animals in need, speaking up for the underdog, and being bold in your beliefs. She passed away with me last year, but her legacy lives on in who I try to be.

If you could say one kind thing to your younger self, what would it be?
Don’t be so hard on yourself or worry so much what others think.

So a lot of these questions go deep, but if you are open to it, we’ve got a few more questions that we’d love to get your take on. What would your closest friends say really matters to you?
Justice, kindness, and using your unique skills to benefit others.

Before we go, we’d love to hear your thoughts on some longer-run, legacy type questions. When do you feel most at peace?
Hiking in the mountains with my dogs away from cell service and noise.
