An Inspired Chat with Delia McCabe PhD of South Congress

Delia McCabe PhD shared their story and experiences with us recently and you can find our conversation below.

Delia, really appreciate you sharing your stories and insights with us. The world would have so much more understanding and empathy if we all were a bit more open about our stories and how they have helped shaped our journey and worldview. Let’s jump in with a fun one: What do you think others are secretly struggling with—but never say?
Many people are battling to stay positive because they feel overwhelmed by the many negative things going on in the world. Many of them also feel exhausted and overwhelmed because they feel they can’t slow down – the world is moving at a very rapid pace today!

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
My background in clinical psychology and now neuroscience research has given me a unique perspective from which to help people battling with chronic stress, which is a big part of ‘Modern Burnout.’

‘Modern Burnout’ relates to the sense of overwhelm that many people feel about modern life, not just about their work,

People benefit from working with me because I support them to address the challenges that their body, brain and mind experience when they’ve been feeling stressed for a long time.

Positive thoughts and exercise, or a holiday and sleeping in, won’t fix the symptoms of ‘Modern Burnout.’

We need to address what our cells (and neurons) need to be able to recover fully!

Amazing, so let’s take a moment to go back in time. What’s a moment that really shaped how you see the world?
Not one moment, but many, while moving between countries and learning about new cultures and people. It gives one a big perspective shift that is very helpful in navigating life!

What did suffering teach you that success never could?
There are times in life that all one can do is live one day at a time. Not trying to navigate further ahead than that. This is both educational and humbling because it teaches you that not everything that happens to you is because of what you did wrong or right!

I think our readers would appreciate hearing more about your values and what you think matters in life and career, etc. So our next question is along those lines. Where are smart people getting it totally wrong today?
They think they have all the answers to what’s wrong in the world, but the world is too complex for any one person to hold all the challenges – and solutions. Even if they’re very smart. Co-operation and collaboration are key to solving complex challenges.

Thank you so much for all of your openness so far. Maybe we can close with a future oriented question. Could you give everything your best, even if no one ever praised you for it?
I need to be able to look into the mirror and be satisfied that I did my very best to leave the world a better place.
