We’re looking forward to introducing you to Jacqui Moore. Check out our conversation below.
Good morning Jacqui , we’re so happy to have you here with us and we’d love to explore your story and how you think about life and legacy and so much more. So let’s start with a question we often ask: What is something outside of work that is bringing you joy lately?
Gardening! Turns out, I have a “green thumb” I never knew about. You would think something as simple like gardening would be fun but it is! It’s very rewarding & teaches you a lot. You have definitely have to research your veggies, resource the proper materials, etc. Teaches you to be patient most of all. When you see the literal fruits of your hard labor, it’s a feeling like no other.
Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
I’m Jacqui, a professional makeup artist specializing in rebranding photoshoot, editorial & fashion. Being in this particular side of the beauty industry is exactly where I want to be because of the clientele. They keep it exciting & different! I’m very fortunate to have the clients I do, they continue to speak my name in rooms when opportunities present themselves. For them to trust me with their vision is why I do what I do. Currently, looking at revamping my portfolio & makeup kit. New products are always hitting the market & it’s my job to test them out to make the cut to get into my kit.
Appreciate your sharing that. Let’s talk about your life, growing up and some of topics and learnings around that. Who were you before the world told you who you had to be?
I was a young girl who fully believed she was going to go to culinary school & become a chef. I grew up in my grandparents house, their kitchen is where we always were. Cooking became my love language & wanted to be immersed in it. The more I sat on that dream, I later realized it was my passion to cook, I did not want to get burned out & later resent cooking for others. I know working in restaurant kitchens is not for the weak.
When did you stop hiding your pain and start using it as power?
My father passed away back in 2020, I had just quit retail after almost 15 yrs to finally become a makeup artist & work for myself. Covid also had just hit & the world shut down. When everything reopened, I finally made my dream happen. I freelanced for a beauty brand just to turn around and build my kit until I was ready to make the leap on my own. I took all my anger, depression, passion and put it into my makeup kit, getting my business up and running. I know it’s what he would have wanted.
I think our readers would appreciate hearing more about your values and what you think matters in life and career, etc. So our next question is along those lines. Is the public version of you the real you?
Yes, I make it a point to be my most authentic self at all times. Not only for myself but for my clients as well. Everyone is not meant to mesh 100%. I’m a firm believer “not all money is good money”, and I whole heartedly live by that. My amazing clients know exactly what they are signing up for when it comes to me. I bring the upmost professional to my jobs, but I will never not be myself & set boundaries when needed.
Okay, we’ve made it essentially to the end. One last question before you go. If you knew you had 10 years left, what would you stop doing immediately?
Social media, paying attention to my phone device than actually taking the world in. I definitely try & disconnect often for a nice mental health break but when you are running your own business on your own, you are the content creator, marketing expert, HR, responding to emails, accountant, it never ends! I say this laughing because in reality, I wouldn’t want it any other way because it’s my business but it’s draining. It would be so nice to literally disconnect from everything & travel
