Joseph Rodriguez shared their story and experiences with us recently and you can find our conversation below.
Joseph, really appreciate you sharing your stories and insights with us. The world would have so much more understanding and empathy if we all were a bit more open about our stories and how they have helped shaped our journey and worldview. Let’s jump in with a fun one: What makes you lose track of time—and find yourself again?
Making music, believe it or not. I’m not the greatest, not even that good haha, but it brings me a sense of comfort and therapy that no other medium allows.
Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
I’m Joseph Cipriano Rodríguez, and I do photography under Joseph C. R. I used to go by my generic username @rjosephrod for a long time but since rebranded and made it a bit more streamlined and classic. I want to be recognizable by my art, not by my name—that happens in time and with patience. I shoot all types of genres: abstract, light, architecture, portrait, wedding, & more. I take pictures of whatever is calling to me or whenever a client seeks something unique from what they request. I try to capture those moments away from time.
Great, so let’s dive into your journey a bit more. What breaks the bonds between people—and what restores them?
I think everyone has their own trajectory, their own balance and sometimes they do not intertwine with the ones currently in our lives—and that’s okay. We are not linear people, we move in complex ways and find unique paths that take us down amazing opportunities and sometimes the opposite. Either way, that movement is what breaks these bonds, but it can just as easily be the same thing that brings people back together.
What fear has held you back the most in your life?
The fear of not being good enough. Of feeling like I failed myself, in my dreams and aspirations. I hold myself so high and it hurts sometimes to know I may not achieve certain things but I tell myself that to be realistic when really it’s just already telling myself I’ve failed when I haven’t even started yet.
Sure, so let’s go deeper into your values and how you think. Where are smart people getting it totally wrong today?
That AI is the solution to everything. It’s a crutch for lazy people to let things get handed to them, and it will continue to become a solution for things until it spirals out of control. We survived without it, we could still.
Okay, so let’s keep going with one more question that means a lot to us: If you knew you had 10 years left, what would you stop doing immediately?
Dodging around truths, constraining my day to day, excuses for not making my life as full as possible.
