An Inspired Chat with Kat Teutsch of South Austin

We’re looking forward to introducing you to Kat Teutsch. Check out our conversation below.

Kat, we’re thrilled to have you with us today. Before we jump into your intro and the heart of the interview, let’s start with a bit of an ice breaker: What is something outside of work that is bringing you joy lately?
I am a neonatal orphaned bottle baby foster. I’ve done this with rescues in NYC for 8 years and in Austin as well. My instagram is @caymanthekitten .I currently have 2 of 3 kittens I took in alittle while ago. One little boy whom has been adopted and 2 little tortie sisters who are just adorable. I love giving them a chance and teaching them and helping them grow into the best they can be and finding forever homes that fit their personalities!! Fostering brings me so much joy! I think they might have found their forever home today which is Awesome!!!

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
My name is Kat, and I am a professional commercial photographer specializing in food, stills, and interiors. I spent 19 years thriving in the New York City industry before relocating to Austin. My move was motivated by a desire to concentrate on my secondary venture, Claykat Ceramics. This business emerged following the passing of my beloved cat daughter, Isis, after 19 years of joy. The experience of creating her urn reignited my passion for ceramics, a craft I had pursued during my college years. Encouraged by my stylist friend, Karin Olsen, I began selling my creations, and the business has since flourished. I produce functional tableware that has been featured in numerous international publications and continues to be showcased in prominent media outlets. My glazes are inspired by the hues of the oceans, beaches, my skin tone, and the lush greens of the forest, reflecting my deep appreciation for nature. You can find my shop at www. Claykatceramics.com and my portfolio at www.katteutsch.com

Amazing, so let’s take a moment to go back in time. Who taught you the most about work?
I can’t pinpoint a single person. Throughout my career, I’ve had the privilege of working with incredible individuals who have shaped my aspirations and helped me identify those I don’t want to be. I am eternally grateful for all these enriching experiences.

What fear has held you back the most in your life?
I believe fear of failure has been a persistent factor in my life. Throughout my existence, I’ve been repeatedly told that I’m not good enough, and this negative reinforcement has had a profound impact on me. However, I’ve come to realize that this was a form of abuse, and I’ve overcome it by achieving my most cherished goals and emerging victorious.

I think our readers would appreciate hearing more about your values and what you think matters in life and career, etc. So our next question is along those lines. What are the biggest lies your industry tells itself?
I’ve been told on several occasions that you can’t achieve something. Never believe that you can’t do something. With your mind set, you can accomplish anything you set you want to.

Okay, so before we go, let’s tackle one more area. When do you feel most at peace?
I find the most peace in nature. Walking alone on a beach at sunset, with no one in sight. Lying in my hammock under trees, with the soft breeze rustling through the leaves and the gentle babble of a creek. Hiking through the forest to that alpine spot to watch the sunset. Kayaking on a still lake. I stay to go to the PNW at the end of every summer and hike and camp to get my fill of nature🌲
