An Inspired Chat with LaChances of South Austin

LaChances shared their story and experiences with us recently and you can find our conversation below.

LaChances, a huge thanks to you for investing the time to share your wisdom with those who are seeking it. We think it’s so important for us to share stories with our neighbors, friends and community because knowledge multiples when we share with each other. Let’s jump in: What are you chasing, and what would happen if you stopped?
I continue to chase greatness. The name in lights, red carpets and screaming fans. That may sound like a pipe dream to some but its the reality for me. Being a performer is all that I have ever worked for. I’ve been groomed for this. Theres no plans of ever stopping but if I did check my pulse.

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
I’m just a small town country boy with dreams bigger than my own imagination. I’ve been acting, singing and dancing since I was a child. It was shows like “Kids Incorporated”, “Roundhouse” and “Mickey Mouse Club” where I first saw kids like me doing something extraordinary. It was almost like a light switched on in my little head. Even if I didn’t quite understand what it was, I knew I needed to be a part of it. At this point in my fledgling career, i’ve been in a couple national campaign commercials but you can mainly find me on apps like Tiktok.

Great, so let’s dive into your journey a bit more. What was your earliest memory of feeling powerful?
In the seventh or eighth grade, I was cast in a production of Schoolhouse Rock. I just remember feeling like such a star during that time because out of all the kids, I had the most solos. “Just a Bill” and “Conjunction Junction” were a few of them. I felt like such a rock star even though looking back I’m pretty sure my voice was cracking like crazy at that time.

Was there ever a time you almost gave up?
Last year I seriously considered giving up acting. I had a somewhat negative experience with my former talent agent, that left me questioning everything about myself. I truly feel that in their own way, they did believe in me. However, the business side was completely unorganized and out of sorts. There were red flags that I ignored from the beginning because I wanted this time to be MY TIME so badly. I harbor zero ill will, and I’m grateful for the experience. Shooken but not broken

Alright, so if you are open to it, let’s explore some philosophical questions that touch on your values and worldview. What important truth do very few people agree with you on?
That there are more things that are the same about us than that are actually different. The human experience is a strange and funny thing, and it’s easy to fall into the belief that no one else understands you or your walkthrough life. But the more you journey outside of your own little bubble, you see that there’s nothing truly special about any of us. While the details, wants, desires and day-to-day may change we all have more things in common than we’re led to believe. I think that’s what’s so beautiful about all of us and should be what brings everyone together. But what do I know?

Before we go, we’d love to hear your thoughts on some longer-run, legacy type questions. What is the story you hope people tell about you when you’re gone?
I want people to talk about my resilience. How I never gave up on myself, and what I believe in. And hopefully that I was able to inspire someone, even if it was just one person to constantly believe in themselves. Fighting every day like the Karate Kid to make my goals and ambitions happen.
