We’re looking forward to introducing you to Qudduws Ware. Check out our conversation below.
Hi Qudduws, thank you for taking the time to reflect back on your journey with us. I think our readers are in for a real treat. There is so much we can all learn from each other and so thank you again for opening up with us. Let’s get into it: What makes you lose track of time—and find yourself again?
My love for creating music often causes me to lose track of time, but it is also a source of strength that helps me reconnect with myself.
Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
Greetings, I’m QUE.D from Detroit — a writer, music producer, and DJ. Music has always been woven into the fabric of my life. With parents who were both singers in their own groups, I grew up surrounded by rhythm and melody. My journey began with dance, my first love, and over time it naturally evolved into creating the music I once moved to.
Today, my sound is a reflection of all the styles that shaped me: Funk, Jazz, Hip-Hop, R&B, Soul, Techno, House, Electronic, and Ghetto Tech. Each track I create is a journey, sometimes fusing two or three of these genres to tell a story through sound.
Currently, I’m working on a house music project with the incredible Necco Redd, a fellow artist from Detroit. Our shared roots and influences bring a unique synergy to the process, and I’m thrilled to share what we’ve been creating together.
Appreciate your sharing that. Let’s talk about your life, growing up and some of topics and learnings around that. What was your earliest memory of feeling powerful?
As I mentioned before, my first love was dancing. One of my earliest memories is of my mother watching me dance like Michael Jackson. She and one of my favorite aunties decided to take me to a dance contest that was happening one Easter. Before the music started, they had all of us kids line up on stage. Once the beat dropped, I danced as if I were the only one on that stage. The crowd began to scream and cheer, and I felt a rush of electrifying energy. For the first time, I realized how powerful it felt to move a crowd through something I was doing. That moment was the beginning of my creative journey. After that, I went on to win many more dance contests.
What did suffering teach you that success never could?
When I began my journey in creating music, it wasn’t easy. I had to go against everyone who thought I couldn’t do it. I had to dig deep within myself and hold tightly to the belief that I had what it took to succeed. I’m thankful for those challenges because they gave me the strength I needed to push forward whenever doubt tried to creep in. Looking back, I realize that if it had been easy, I wouldn’t have built the character required to survive in this music business.
Next, maybe we can discuss some of your foundational philosophies and views? What would your closest friends say really matters to you?
Respect is very important to me, and I believe everyone deserves it. When you give respect, more often than not, people will return it. Throughout my life, I’ve learned that respect has opened more doors for me than almost anything else I could bring to the table. In many cases, it can even be the deciding factor between you and someone who may have more talent or skill — not just in the music business, but in life overall.
Thank you so much for all of your openness so far. Maybe we can close with a future oriented question. Are you doing what you were born to do—or what you were told to do?
I believe I am living what I was created to do, not what others expected of me. With the gifts I’ve been blessed with — and even in the right moments of conversation — I strive to bring light, love, and enlightenment to those I cross paths with.
