Hi Alma, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
Hello! My name is Alma Benitez. I am a local entrepreneur and balloon artist. I am a full time mom, and full time home worker. I began “Alma’s Party Decor” one year ago. After a series of failed business endeavors. I found myself and my husband, struggling to pay rent and keep up with the bills. With my husband out of the job due to COVID I found myself looking through Tiktok on night, I saw a video of a woman who made balloon decorations at what people would say “outrageous” prices. I thought to myself, “What if I tried to make the same quality of work, but for more accessible prices?” That way customers with lower income due to hard times with the pandemic could also enjoy beautiful high quality balloon creations, but at the fraction of the price. And thus Alma’s Party Decor was born.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Yes, one of my hardest challenges was trying to get my company recognized. With many talented, and more experienced balloon artists out there, I found it hard to get my name up there as well. It was very hard to get the hang of things at the beginning, but I made it work. I learned from YouTube tutorials, talented Balloon Artists around the globe who shared their techniques in online classes, and practiced a ton! Balancing my day to day life with my balloon creations is also a huge challenge. Working from home with my toddler around makes it that much difficult, if I could tell you how many balloons have been popped in the process, you wouldn’t be able to believe me. I am a stay at home mom, while working a 24/7 business and I wouldn’t change a thing!
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
What You should know about my work is that I take great pride in what I do. I always put quality and customer satisfaction before anything. I’m still learning new things every day, better ways to give customers what they need, and finding different and better ways to accommodate to their needs. I’m a one woman team, and maybe in the future I will expand. But for the moment I will continue to offer excellent quality work, for accessible prices. I will always work with my clients to meet their budget. You see, it’s not about the money, it’s about putting a smile on my clients face, by giving their event a POP of color.
What quality or characteristic do you feel is most important to your success?
I believe that what characterizes myself and my business is that I always work with my customers. Like I said before I want my customers to be happy with my product. I want them to have an awesome experience while working with me. I am human just like everyone else, I know what quality of work I would want at my party. So I set my standards even higher when it comes to my customers events. My prices are extremely accessible and if my price is to high, I will always try to work with my customers to provide the best quality of work, but for their budget. In shorter words I’m more human towards my customers, and will always try to meet their needs and budgets. I know where I came from and where I’m going, but everything at its time. Plus I love doing what I do, and will gladly continue doing it for my community at unbeatable prices.
