Today we’d like to introduce you to Audrey Kroot.
Hi Audrey, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
When our oldest was two years old we started getting very aware of what was in certain products as we tried to transition over to healthy alternatives, that didn’t have the same problems with plastics, chemicals, etc.
Our daughter loved doing things herself and when she saw me painting my nails of course she wanted to do that too.
Realizing some could accidentally end up in her mouth, I thought it would be great if there was a nail polish made with food grading ingredients.
So, after experimenting in the kitchen, my husband and I came up with our own formula and named it Kid Licks.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Of course, like with any business, we have had our challenges, which have turned into learning experiences.
Learning about the industry has been overwhelming but really fun.
Our product is unique and it really crosses into three different industries; nail polish, kids products and natural goods.
We did our first soft launch at natural products expo and had extremely positive reactions plus we got to network with other brands like us..
At this point we are pretty dialed in and are putting together additional funding so that we can expand more.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I don’t have a business background, so I’ve been learning along the way. One of the things that has helped is networking and spreading the word about Kid Licks on social media platforms, mostly Instagram.
I also coach private swimming and running lessons.
I studied journalism and ran cross country and track for Cal poly San Luis Obispo and when I got injured, I swam to keep in shape. From there I started coaching and continued training.
I now run and race for The Texas Outlaw Running Company’s Elite group.
My greatest accomplishment is becoming a mother and raising our seven children who we homeschool (some are in hybrid homeschool programs).
Do you have recommendations for books, apps, blogs, etc?
I like the halo app for religious inspiration.
I don’t usually listen to anything besides music when I run and for the past few years I try to run with a small portable radio so that I’m not carrying my phone when I run.
If I hear about a good healthy living podcast I’ll try to listen to that, but I don’t have any that I regularly listen to.
