Today we’d like to introduce you to Cate Myer.
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
I have always been an artist at heart. I grew up taking art lessons and spent years painting, but photography became deeply personal for me when I became a mom. I wanted to hold onto all of life’s tiny details, the expressions, the stages you swear you will remember forever but somehow start to blur with time. Picking up a camera not only became another way for me to create art, but it also gave me a way to preserve the people and moments I loved most.
I started Cate Myer Photography in Houston in 2016 and have been incredibly fortunate to grow alongside it ever since. When I relocated to Central Texas in 2022, I found myself building both my business and my community all over again. Today, Cate Myer Photography serves Austin, Temple, Waco and beyond. What began as a deeply personal way to preserve my own life has grown into the privilege of creating art that preserves the lives and stories of others.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
I don’t think starting something new and creating a business is ever an entirely smooth road, but photography came surprisingly naturally to me. I’m entirely self taught, and with the incredible trust and support of the families and people who have chosen me to document their lives, I’ve been privileged to keep refining my craft, growing as an artist, and finding my place in this amazing community.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I specialize in natural light portrait photography, with most of my work centered around families, couples, graduating seniors, and young professionals. I’m known for the warmth in my images and the soft, almost ethereal quality I love to create at golden hour. I’m constantly looking for ways to catch the sun beautifully and pair it with natural, whimsical settings filled with texture.
Natural light portraiture is at the heart of my work, but I’m not limited to one type of session, setting, or season of life. I also photograph weddings, Fresh 48 and lifestyle newborn sessions, headshots, boudoir, studio portraits, and anything else that allows me to creatively document people. If it falls within the world of portraiture, I’m probably excited to photograph it. I love tailoring each session to the person in front of me and creating something that feels personal, beautiful, and completely their own.
What I’m most proud of are the relationships and connections I have with the people who trust me to have a front row seat to some of the most intimate and cherished moments of their lives. I’m often invited back again and again as they move through different seasons, and over time many of my clients begin to feel more like friends and family.
I think that connection is also what sets me apart. I care deeply about making people feel comfortable and known, not just photographed. When someone can relax enough to simply be themselves with me, that is when I’m able to create the kind of images that feel both beautiful and deeply personal.
So, before we go, how can our readers or others connect or collaborate with you? How can they support you?
People can work with me by reaching out through my website, social media, or by emailing me directly at catekmyer@gmail.com to inquire about booking or collaborating. I’m always excited to connect with people, other creatives, local businesses, and brands when it feels like a good fit.
The best way to support my work is honestly the simplest. Share it, tell a friend, tag me when you post your images, or simply stay connected. So much of my business has grown through word of mouth, and every referral and returning client means more to me than people probably realize.
