Check Out Dag Larson’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Dag Larson.

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
I fell into photography in quite the most random way. I was going to community college, lost, living in a college town with no direction, skiing 70+ days a year. My career councilor asked what my goals were and what I was doing at the school as I had just passed my 3rd year and at that point gone down almost every direction the school offered in classes.
After exclaiming no and being slid a piece of paper to write down the top 10 things I ever wanted to be I only wrote “snowboard photographer”
Having never picked up a camera prior I took the classes they offered and quickly found out I had a knack for it.
6 months later I’m enrolled in The Art Institute of Colorado and on my way to becoming a professional.
2.5 years later I graduate in one of the worst economic periods and don’t know which way is up.
A friend offered me a position as an intern shooting products for a client which turns out kicked off my 14 years with their company traveling the world creating for the biggest names in industries.
Now on my own it’s been a wild journey the past couple years defining myself in a saturated world of creatives with dwindling budgets and “fast fashion photography” better known as social media campaigns.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Haha no not really, everyday is. struggle, wake up and motivate yourself to be an accountant one minute or a creative director the next. Pitch a client, send emails, update websites and try not to compare yourself to everyone else.
Mentally it’s exhausting.

I just don’t know how to quit I guess, Thanks Dad for the hard upbringing.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
