Check Out Daniel Broxton’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Daniel Broxton.

Hi Daniel, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
I’ve been dancing since I was 8 years old and professionally since I was 18 years old. I started teaching my first class in highschool and got my first professional choreography opportunity when I was 19. I’ve danced all over Austin and outside of austin and have created for many artists, many organizations, including my own companies New Genesis and Moving Achlemists. I currently manage New Genesis, and direct Moving Alchemists, and do work with Early Era Collective as a choreographer and co producer! My goal is to add more opportunity to Austin dance community while making work and community spaces inclusive and safe.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
It has not been a smooth road. Some of the struggles has been finding an audience, networking, and supporting the dream financially. I had to learn how to connect with people and build a network of people that I could rely on while also being someone they can rely on.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I’m a choreographer, director, producer, and teacher. Im honestly most proud of my leadership abilities and creating safe spaces for dancers and other artists to be part of. I recognize what was consistent in the past is outdated and toxic. So changing that one show at a time is something that I’m really proud of.

What sort of changes are you expecting over the next 5-10 years?
My goal is to give artists, not just dancers even though I prioritize in dance, more financial opportunities in Austin. I think with the way I’m doing things, along side other directors and companies, I believe we will see that happen more consistently throughout all of Austin. Right now dance and art are in an interesting place, but I think that’s good because we can rebuild the foundation for a more equal and prosperous community.
