Check Out David Fore’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to David Fore

Hi David, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
I started playing music at the age of 13. Music was my first love, and I desperately wanted a career there!

After 11th grade, I quit high school and joined the psychedelic rock band Bubble Puppy. Our song “Hot Smoke and Sassafras” became a nationwide hit, reaching #14 on the Billboard Magazine charts. In 2010, Bubble Puppy was inducted into the Austin Chronicle’s Hall of Fame.

The musical times changed, so in the 1970s, I played with the progressive country icon Steve Fromholz.

In the 1980s, I founded the New Wave Band D-Day and co-wrote our 80s teen anthem, “Too Young to Date,” which was a #1 hit in Los Angeles on KROQ.

In the 1990s, I joined Austin’s Award-Winning Beatles Tribute Band, The EggMen. We won the Austin Chronicle “Best Cover Band” award eleven times.

I now front my band, David Fore & Friends. My new CD is “I’m Too Shallow to Sing the Blues!”

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
A music career is a blast, but it has its pitfalls. Once a decade, I would have a successful run, then whatever band I was in would end, and I would return to square one.
In the 1990s, I got my GED and finished my education. I graduated with honors from St. Edwards University with a Computer Science degree. Now that I am financially secure, music is more fun than ever!

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I am well-known among Austin Musicians for being an original member of Bubble Puppy. The band was famous for our two fantastic guitar players. A generation of Austin Guitarists learned how to play guitar from Bubble Puppy.

Having such a successful band early in my career has helped me. It’s great to be remembered for having a national hit record as a kid!

So maybe we end on discussing what matters most to you and why?
I care about having a balanced life.

I have a wonderful girlfriend. Laura. We’ve been together for 22 years and have a lot of fun. She is also retired, so that we can travel a bit. Laura is very supportive of my music. She and I have many friends that we see often.

I also have a great group of musical friends. I’m getting older, so I try to stay fit and healthy.
