Check Out Fatihah’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Fatihah.

Hi Fatihah, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
We are Aulia and Zed, a young married couple behind “Our Cerita”. We started Our Cerita in early 2025, created from our shared love for weddings, visual storytelling and the beauty of documenting moments as they naturally happen. What started as something we wanted to create together has slowly grown into a creative duo and collective with a growing presence across

The name Our Cerita comes from the Malay word “cerita”, which means a story, a tale or a part of a story. “Our” represents us and the people whose stories we get to be part of. For us, every wedding has its own story, and we see ourselves as people who are there to capture a small part of it.

We wanted to document what makes every wedding unique to the couple. Every bride and groom has their own story, personality, culture and aesthetic, and we love finding the details that make their celebration different from everyone else’s. It could be the gown, the attire, the decoration, the venue, a cultural tradition or even the smallest personal detail. We want to capture those elements and make them part of the story.

Our approach has always been a little different. While many wedding content creators tend to focus on one type of gear or one way of creating content, we like to explore different ways of capturing a story. We use the raw and immediate feel of an iPhone, curated photography, videos and same day Instagram updates. We bring these different mediums together to create a visual story that feels cohesive and personal.

We are not only interested in documenting what happened at a wedding. We want to show the beauty of the celebration too. We want people to notice the details that the couple spent so much time choosing, from the gown and flowers to the decorations, venue and styling. At the same time, we want to capture the emotions and candid moments that cannot be planned. For us, the combination of the aesthetic and the genuine moments is what makes a wedding story feel complete.

We want the stories we capture to inspire people. We want someone watching a wedding we documented to feel something, appreciate the beauty of the celebration and perhaps even find inspiration for their own wedding.

We are still at the beginning of our journey, and our next goal is to bring Our Cerita to a much bigger audience. We hope to work with more couples, explore more cultures and document celebrations across the region while staying true to what Our Cerita has always been about: capturing a part of someone’s story and making it something worth remembering.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
One of the biggest challenges has been building our own branding and creative identity. In an industry where everyone is constantly creating and sharing, it can be difficult to develop a style that feels genuinely ours. We have seen how different creators naturally develop their own way of styling, shooting and presenting content, and for us, the challenge has always been to keep evolving without losing what makes Our Cerita recognisable.

Another challenge is growing alongside so many other creators. Wedding content creation is still relatively new, and the industry has grown very quickly. There are now many talented people creating beautiful work, so we constantly have to push ourselves creatively and find new ways to tell stories without simply following what everyone else is doing.

We have also had to educate ourselves and others about what a wedding content creator actually does. There can sometimes be confusion between our role and the traditional role of a photographer or videographer. We are there to document the wedding from a different perspective. We are not there to direct poses or take over the couple’s moments. We focus more on observing, capturing candid interactions, the atmosphere and the aesthetic details of the day. Learning how to communicate this clearly with couples, photographers, videographers and other vendors has been an important part of our journey.

Another challenge has been learning about different cultures and traditions. Weddings in Malaysia alone can be so diverse, and every culture has its own customs, expectations and things that we need to be mindful of. As we continue to work with different couples, we are constantly learning about the different do’s and don’ts, what moments are appropriate to capture and how we can be respectful while still doing our job creatively.

These challenges have actually shaped Our Cerita in many ways. They have taught us to keep learning, communicate better, stay respectful of the people we work with and most importantly, continue developing our own creative language instead of trying to fit into what the industry expects from us.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
Our different backgrounds directly shape the experience we give to our clients. Zed comes from Film and New Media Studies, with experience in creative production, marketing, visual direction and website curation, while Aulia comes from the aviation industry and previously worked with Malaysia Airlines, alongside her experience as a model and talent.

These experiences have taught us to look at a wedding from different perspectives, not only through the lens, but also from the way a client experiences the entire day. We understand the importance of storytelling and visual details, while also understanding communication, professionalism, presentation and working with people.

This allows us to be more observant and adaptable on the day, giving our clients a service that feels personal, comfortable and well considered, while making sure the final content reflects their personality, culture and the aesthetic they have created for their wedding.

Are there any important lessons you’ve learned that you can share with us?
The biggest lesson we have learned is that building a creative business is not only about how good your work is. It is also about how people feel when they work with you, how much they trust you and the relationships you build along the way.

Working independently can take you somewhere, but connection, trust and community can take you much further. The people we meet, the relationships we build and the trust we earn have become just as important as the work itself.

We have also learned to be very intentional and disciplined with our visual presentation and the standards we set for ourselves. When you are building a creative brand, people experience your work before they even meet you, so the way you present yourself, your work and your brand matters from the very beginning.

We are also learning that our responsibility does not end when the event is over. We want our clients to feel appreciated not only because we delivered their content, but because they trusted us to be part of such an important day in their lives. We are constantly learning how to make that post event experience feel just as meaningful, whether it is through how we deliver the work, how we communicate with them or simply making them feel that their story genuinely mattered to us.
