Today we’d like to introduce you to Gerad Floyd.
Hi Gerad, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I’ve always had what I call a bit of a “starving artist” mentality—I knew early on that I wanted to build a career around something I genuinely love, regardless of where it might lead financially.
I earned my BA in theatre with a focus on stage management, directing, and design, which gave me a strong foundation in logistics, production, and storytelling. After graduating, I moved to Austin and started cold-emailing wedding planners looking for an internship. That’s really where everything began and I still work closely with the mentor who first trained me.
Over the last 10 years, weddings were my side hustle while I built experience across the events industry. I worked as an assistant at an interior design showroom, spent a few years as the office manager for a full-service wedding florist, and also held roles with an event rental company and a catering team. Eventually, I became the Event Production Manager at the Long Center, where I oversaw ballet, opera, and symphony performances for their Founding Resident Companies.
All of those roles gave me an understanding of how events come together—from pulling linens and placing rental orders to managing timelines, vendor relationships, and guest experience. I’ve seen how things work behind the scenes across multiple disciplines. I’ve collaborated with other planners, supported floral teams, adjusted layouts, and observed what works—and what doesn’t—both in the lead-up to events and on the day itself. I’ve taken all of those lessons and built them into how I run my business and serve my clients today.
About four years ago, I launched Gerad Floyd Events, and it’s now my full-time focus as I head into year five.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Not always smooth, but incredibly rewarding. Each challenge helped shape how I lead, problem-solve, and show up for my clients today. For a long time, weddings and events were a side hustle while I worked full-time in other roles just to support myself. Balancing those two worlds meant long hours, a lot of weekends, and learning how to manage my time and energy really carefully.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I specialize in full-service event planning with a very personal, relationship-driven approach. I take on a limited number of clients so I can be fully invested in each one.
As the only male-owned wedding planning LLC in Austin, I’ve built my business around high standards and strong vendor relationships, backed by hands-on experience across the industry.
What I’m most proud of is the trust my clients have in me and the experience we create together.
What sort of changes are you expecting over the next 5-10 years?
The wedding industry is constantly evolving—trends, technology, and client expectations are always shifting. I think we’ll continue to see more personalized, experience-driven events and a greater emphasis on thoughtful planning over just aesthetics. A strong planner plays a key role in helping clients navigate those changes and make decisions that actually work for them.
