Check Out Kayla McCutcheon’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Kayla McCutcheon.

Hi Kayla, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
I started Briar Rose Creations in December 2020 with an Instagram page, I would sell bracelets to close friends and family. In February 2022 decided to rebrand and restart my account. I am also in the process of creating an Etsy and Depop shop.

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey have been a fairly smooth road?
Not exactly, it’s pretty challenging to post on social media and to get views and likes and overall interaction from real accounts, most of the time, it’s bots. I’ve only sold to friends and family since most of my followers are just bot accounts. I have promoted my shop page on my personal social media accounts, but I guess it never appealed to any of my followers. It’s challenging because I don’t know if I’m actually appealing to people’s interests and it sometimes discourse me from posting.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I make jewelry! I’m mostly known for my beaded bracelets, I’ve been making them ever since I was a kid, when I was 15 I wanted to create an Etsy shop but didn’t understand the basics of it. I also make friendship bracelets, was cord bracelets, beaded rings, wired rings, beaded necklaces, beaded anklets, and scrunchies. I would say I’m most proud of my needed necklaces, I love the aesthetic of pearl necklaces and I create my version of that aesthetic. I would say what sets me apart is the aesthetic, I love the cottage core and earthbound trend and love putting the two together.

Do you have recommendations for books, apps, blogs, etc?
There is this one podcast I listen to, it’s called Memento Vivere by Manny Riko, there are two episodes where he talks about starting over and creating a vibey universe. And I think those two things are really important, we always say we want to make a change and to start over, but we’re afraid to just do it, we think we have to wait for a new being to come to us to take that action. And he says that’s the only person stopping us is us, and we just have to take that leap of faith and do what would benefit us.
