Check Out Keayanna Anderson’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Keayanna Anderson.

Hi Keayanna, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
I was born and raised in Austin, Texas, with deep roots in the city and surrounding area. I share my love for food, culture, experiences, and travel through my platform Keay Explores, and have been creating content as a passion since 2017 under various usernames. I have always been a documenter and a storyteller. Since taking my content seriously in 2024, I have had the honor of landing numerous paid and hosted brand deals and have built relationships with some of the coolest creatives and professionals in Texas. I take pride in the small community I have built solely off of being unapologetically myself. I am a layered person with varying interests, and I am not afraid to try and enjoy new things. I always joke that I have already lived 5 lives, but it is absolutely true because I do not fit inside anyone’s box. I have been in the Army Reserves, I auditioned for The Voice and got callbacks, had poems published, played soccer, did cheerleading, helped open a business, had a business of my own for a while; the list goes on.

I have gotten to a place where my audience values my opinion, and they often visit the places I am recommending based on the content I am creating. It is an amazing feeling. Even as a smaller creator, the fact that real locals voted me one of Austin.com’s top 10 Influencers last year made my entire year. It showed me that anything is possible, and that I was on the right path.

Lately, I have also ventured into nonprofit work with my family. We have a shared vision of serving the community through education and support on regenerative gardening and farming, self-sustainability, and reconnection to the land and ancestral history. In our early stages, we are putting boots on the ground and hands in the soil to help our neighbors, friends, and family maintain gardens of all sizes. This will later expand to on-site workshops, community activities and resources, volunteer opportunities, and more.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Although the wins and accomplishments feel amazing, it has not been a completely smooth road. Even after gaining the confidence and security I needed to fully throw myself into being a creator, I quickly realized what comes with increased visibility. I started hearing lies being spread about me, started getting weird and unnecessary comments, and even anonymous emails harassing me based on false information given to them. That is a part of being public-facing that never really clicks for you until you are right in the middle of it.

I had to recalibrate and decide how I wanted to deal with things like this moving forward. One of the hardest pills to swallow is the fact that not everyone is going to like me, and that is completely okay. At the end of the day, only I know the full extent of my struggles and journey. I know what my purpose is, and there is not a single string of words that could get me to slow down or stop. When you genuinely want to serve the community in any capacity, the struggles mean just as much as the easy days. They remind you that everything happens for a reason, and even negativity can be transformed into motivation and success.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I document my life experiences with local food, music, and culture, and I use that content to make connections with people who resonate and are looking for things to occupy their time. I specialize in highlighting accessible experiences and sharing knowledge that only comes from being born and raised in this area.

I am most proud of the impact I have been able to make with both my audience and the businesses I have partnered with. Being told that someone is going to try something new because of me is the absolute best feeling.

What sets me apart from others is my ability to enjoy and romanticize even the simplest of things. I remind people that you do not have to look or live a certain way to have fun and get the most out of life. I move between food, nightlife, festivals, and travel without any of it feeling like a stretch, because it is all filtered through the lens of being an Austin native who genuinely lives and breathes this city rather than covering it from a polished, editorial angle.

What quality or characteristic do you feel is most important to your success?
Discernment and resilience are very important to my success. Being able to pick up on subtle vibes, shifts, and disingenuous people has saved me from a lot of nonsense. With anything, it is important to know the signs of when a person, place, or thing is not good for you or your journey. Having resilience has gotten me into rooms and conversations I never thought possible. If I gave up every time someone said they did not like me or what I am doing, I would quite literally get nowhere in life. In today’s world, it is a skill to have thick skin and continue on through adversity, and I have learned to do it better as time goes on. There will always be distractions, obstacles, and tests. You have to be secure in who you are and willing to fulfill your purpose by any means necessary.
